So who here plays the Lottery?

yeah it's nice to dream but the odds are so astronomical. I read somewhere that you have better odds of getting struck by lightning 3 times over than hitting a big jackpot. I've never been struck by lightning so I don't think I'll fare any better playing the lotto.

Yeah but at least with the lotto, you choose the numbers, so it's all on you. Being struck by lightning is completely random and you have no control over it. $1 a week has no impact at all unless your one of those ppl that crunches the numbers with everything you buy

This thread reminded me to check the TN lottery to see if I won the $75 million...I didn't.

I play the big lottery a few times a month and it's worth the few dollars because I like to think about what I would do with the money if I won and even though the odds are I never will it's only a few bucks and the "what if" is worth it.

You have control over being struck by lightning. I can increase my chances by standing on top of tall building holding a metal rod!

Isn't quick pick the better way to do it? Ive heard that picking your own numbers lessens your odds severely.

i use an iphone app to choose my numbers......like they say, theres an app for everything

From what I've read, you have the same chance. You have the same chance if you play 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 as you do playing any random combo. I find it hard to believe, but the experts say so.

I play some of each. Cover my bases that way.

Oh, and if I win a really big lotto, half the money is going to be given away. Paying it forward.

You may want to reconsider that, unless you're content with winning a few bucks that will only get put back into buying more scratch cards and then losing....

The reason being, say there is a shop that sells the scratch cards. They end up going out of business but in their inventory lies the winning jackpot card. That card gets confiscated back by the lotto company and destroyed. they do not put those cards back into circulation. So essentially the jackpot card is lost forever and the game goes on with no chance of a big winner.
