Most recent one for me was Tron Legacy on IMAX. The one I wanted to go to was sold out by the time I got there. Got my ticket for the next showing and left the theater since I had some time. Came back and saw that one was sold out and the one after, too.

Movies sell out all the time here (in Los Angeles). I guess it depends on how dense your area is populated?

Last week we went to see Bridesmaids on a Monday night and it was sold out (didn't think to buy tickets before hand because.... well... it was a Monday night). My friend went to see it Tuesday, and same thing, sold out... so yeah it happens.

Most devastating "SOLD OUT EXPERIENCE" I remember was Scream 2. I had been salivating over the movie since Scream ended and was there early in the evening opening night... and every.... single.... showing.. was sold out.... I was so crushed. Sat through Alien Ressurrection instead... arms folded.... bottom lip stuck out.... miserable..... went back the next day and saw the first showing of Scream 2... and loved it (still my fav of the series)

I should've said non-IMAX movies because I'm sure those sell out quite often. the nearest one of those to me is over 100 miles away.

Also, if you guys buy tickets in advance, do you still get matinee prices, etc.? I only go to the cheapest times and there's no way I'm gonna pay more when I can go for $5. Unless of course it's a special showing.

Yep. I usually always go to the very last matinee. Can't beat reserved seats at $6.50 :rock

Last sold out movie I attended was the premiere of Cannonball Run .... car thru theater front window and everything :lecture

I have to throw mine in with the TDK crowd, I haven't been to a movie since that sold out even at the 8-9 PM showings which is routinely the ones that do. Even the past few Midnight showings I was able to get to weren't sold out....

I think the last time I went to a 'Sold Out' movie was the LOTR movies. We managed to get in every time but that's 'cause we bought our tickets in the morning and arrived at the cinema 1 hour before it started.

I'm pretty sure the X-Men screening I went to last Friday night was sold out. Did not look like there were any seats left. Last honest to goodness sold out film I went to though was Deathly Hallows Part 1 last year and Inception before that. Of course the midnight showing of TDK was SRO too. Best theatre experience with a sold out audience in recent memory. Just unbelievably off the hook!

I don't remember which movie it was as it was about two months ago, but I did see a movie that had a full theater. It didn't "sell out" per se. But just before the movie started, someone opened an emergency exit that was right in the theater and about 50 people came in and filled out the last of the seats with a few having to leave as there were no seats left.

i remember the first Jurassic Park movie in theaters was sold out. heck, some people were sitting on the steps even.
