There was a guy that was Kicked out from an airplane at the airport because he had a cartoon shirt of Megatron with a gun...

I saw that story about the posters. It's not surprising. We do ad work for a major cable movie company and we're told to not use any images with the characters using any kind of weapon, which is ridiculous because all those movies' advertising have guns or weapons! So now that they are airing on a cable channel suddenly their weapons are a bad thing? It's annoying particularly because it thoroughly reduces our options of what images to use and we end up with boring headshots. The best we can do is crop them out of the shot.

How many mass shootings occurred in schools or movie theaters in the USA from 1900-1990?
236 in total.
More than half of them from 70's to 90's.

31 in 1970's
40 in 1980's
68 in 1990's

Only 8 theater shootings, by the way.

None.

It wasn't until kids read The Dark Knight that those shootings began.

And Rap had a huge influence too.

And that Rock n' Roll.

And Red Dye #5.

Gun murders in the U.S. skyrocketed in the decade between 1965 and 1975 - there's been drops and peaks since, but it has never gone back to the rate it was in the early 1960's. The "love of guns" ethos - as defined by the NRA and the militant clinging to the 2nd Amendment - largely didn't exist before the 1970's. Though its dropped in recent decades gun ownership more than doubled between 1960 to 1980, and the attitude to guns changed.

Things changed drastically in the U.S. in the mid 1960's.

I'll eventually go see this but for some reason I'm really not that excited about it. Its not a story I ever thought about or cared about seeing.
