Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

BDW should’ve been the first elder Black Panther in the spiritual world.

My man deserves no less.

Actually it’s ok he was better off not being in the Bland Panther movie lol

Can't wait for Ethan Van Sciver's review.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

So, based on reactions from critics so far, it sounds like this is basically going to be another RO where the first hour is boring and it doesn't pick up until afterwards. I guess that cements me not even watching this online. Sucks because I was somewhat looking forward to it after hearing about...

...the alleged Maul cameo.

Actually it’s ok he was better off not being in the Bland Panther movie lol

Being on the opposite side, I loved R1. If this movie delivers near that I'll be a happy camper......

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

My thoughts as well. Rogue One really felt like classic SW imo.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Solo is a bubblegum film at best. "Fun" at first but ultimately forgettable. To the Dollar Store it goes.

Cool! You saw it it and are not basing your opinion on early reactions? Tell me more. I want to hear all about how you saw this early.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Some folks are already ready to not like it based on the studio that made it.

They know it will suck before seeing it....

The force is strong with them....

Read between the lines of the Commissar reviews. Consider the source. Decode the language. Sloganeering and platitudes. Forced positivity with hints of truth below the surface.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If the very worst thing that anyone who has seen this so far has to say is "starts slow but then finds its footing and delivers by the second act..." I would say that the signs at least point to this movie being good...Especially when you consider that this is not even the prevailing opinion but just a comment or two here or there. I think the goal post for success for this film has been sneakily moved...you've gotta remember that two months ago people were saying that this movie was going to be such an unmitigated disaster that the rumor was Disney was not even going to release it in spite of having already spent hundreds of millions to produce it. "Slow start" sounds like a HUGE win actually when you consider what people were expecting...

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

The keywords for me are "fun" and "no depth". Also Donald Glover's Lando gets all the praise. Alden's Solo is mostly ignored, even though he's the lead character. Hence my hypothesis that it's probably a bubblegum flick. Not a movie you're going to watch religiously for the following decades. It's not going to be one of your default movies. Even the prequals are still watched occasionally by a lot of people.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

If the vibe that I am getting from the trailers and the feedback from the early tweets are all accurate I am pretty sure that this will definitely be one of my default movies that I will regularly watch for decades to come...just like I do with the other 9 Star Wars movies.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I think the larger point is that we can do better folks. I watch Rogue One still for just this one scene and then I turn it off.

And we still don't know if there is any SJW messaging in Solo. Does anyone really believe that any of the early reviewers are going to point that out? If there is, then forget it.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I think we are doing fine...the past 3 years have given me my favorite Star Wars movie and two others that are in my top 5...not sure how much better we really have to do...as far as I am concerned this is a golden age for Star Wars fans. Ultimately my measure of how well Star Wars is doing from a qualitative standpoint does not extend beyond my own personal enjoyment.
