Finally got to see the movie. Loved it. Reminded me of the Han Solo books that came out back in the 90s. I’ve been avoiding this thread for spoilers, so what is the general consensus around here on it? I think it already may be my favorite of any of the new Disney flicks.

Yep, it's neck and neck with RO for me as well.

Finally Home and I can type on a real keyboard..

Interesting to see you think its Neck and Neck with RO.

Thinking of both of these films and my first time viewing of them I would say I liked Solo more. Had it not been for the Vader scene I would have left RO a little disappointed. Now Repeat viewing of RO have made it an all time classic SW film and I would say its will always be a little better then Solo.

However I have to ask.. Was this film really dark for your showings? I mean it was really hard to see the first 30+ min. I know a lot of it took place in darker areas but man I really felt the brightness level was way down in the theater I was at.

It actually affected my enjoyment. If it was intentional then I think it was a bad choice. If not and it was the theater I think I will like it more the next time I go see it.

Anyways it was a fun fun FUN time at the movies.

I was not thrilled with Lando's robot but only when she was talking about her relationship with Lando... It was just goofy. "We can talk.. Its just us"

Yes SW films humanize their droids but this went a bit too far IMO. Just goofy. I did not mind her freeing the droids as it is fun to See Gonk droids causing havoc :lol

Seeing lot of strange discussions here in the board as per usual with a SW film but they don;t seem as depressingly negative as TLJ threads were

Of course why would it be? This is a vastly superior SW film.

It was very dark, at least I had the same problem.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I've seen Solo three times so far (already tied with TLJ in theatrical viewings in less than a week!) and the brightness was great on a 15/70 IMAX screen, great a second time in a Dolby Vision auditorium, and then I went for a $5 Tuesday showing at a Markus theater and I noticed that it was definitely too dark in some scenes to the point where I actively noticed that I couldn't make out all the details of the image that I had previously noticed during my first two showings so it definitely appears to be an issue depending on the theater.

EDIT: When I say "the brightness was great" I mean that it was very clear even during the Corellia/Mimba scenes not that it was "bright" per se. It reminded me of the look of BR 2049 where even though it was grey with low light the contrast and clarity still allowed you to see everything perfectly.

All this talk about KK getting the boot.. Even though she is 50/50 for me right now.. I can't help but think that RO and Solo were good despite her. Sure she fired the directors of Solo and called for re shoots of RO but she seems to be more invested as far as interviews and publicity touring with the ST. Perhaps I am wrong about all of that..

OF course I think in the hands of someone who cares a bit more about SW then Solo and RO could have been even better and not run into the issues and the ST would most defiantly be better. I loved RO and Solo but I think in the hands of someone who cared more things would have gone right from the beginning.

Again I could be wrong. Perhaps KK does love SW and feels she is doing the best job she can for the films.. I just find a lot of the SJ messaging to be out of place, heavy handed, and used at the expense of the stories, The Force is female ****s to be a bit goofy, and the "fans don't matter" logic to be troubling. Since Men make up most of the fan base, all of this makes me think she has man issues :lol

However if the SW stories continue with the same quality I am fine with her staying on for now.

I have given up hope on the ST. All involved should be ashamed of themselves for how sloppily it was handled.

Your 3rd viewing sounds like my first. Hope I have better luck when I see it again this weekend.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Saw it tonight. I found it decent though not mindblowing. The mere fact it did nothing that made me immediately think ''not in my canon'' is a win for Star Wars in my book. Nothing pissed me off. Yay!

I think I'd go 7/10 but not in a hurry to see again.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Thinking of both of these films and my first time viewing of them I would say I liked Solo more.

One thing that worked against Solo's first viewing for me was it's low-key finale especially after RO. Not that I would have expected another "Battle of Scarif" or anything but that last fight in Drydon's Study was *so* low-key that I felt it borderlined on anti-climactic. However watching it a second time I found myself really enjoying the ending. There was so much excitement in all the preceding scenes that it was fun to just see Han jumping around a room trying to evade a single combatant.

And I really liked that they didn't give Han any sweet martial arts moves or anything which would have been so wrong for the character and that he pretty much stayed alive by being "slippery" at the end and staying just out of reach when it mattered most.

But man, the music in this film, I found it to be off the charts fantastic. It really elevated every sequence tremendously, even sequences that were already incredibly exciting on their own (like the train heist and Kessel Run.) And when Chewie took over co-piloting duties for the first time and the main SW theme kicked in, has *any* SW film used that theme since Luke and Leia were blasting Stormies right before swinging across the bridge?? :rock

:thud: :D

Projectionist lost the unions years ago, and were replaced by computers and teenagers to run them.

Black Panther was almost unwatchable in my theater due to bad set up in the booth. They claimed it was set up according to studio specs. I complained to the manager at the time and they got me free tickets. But I told then if they don’t fix it why would I see it again? It was terrible and anyone with eyes could see the contrast and gamma were way off.

Seeing it on BluRay confirmed it.

Most of the time the calibration os so far out of wack, even if the settings are correct, the film looks awful.

Your paying ALOT of money now for movies...upward of 60.00 for a family of 4.....their only job is to project the film and make it look good....

Heres an interesting article on it.

For me it’s no contest RO definately better than Solo.

RO has too much going for it to lose out to Solo.

We’re talking about Vader/Tarkin/Leia/Death Star/Rebel Fleet/Krennic/K2SO/Sacrificial ending

And Saw Guerera and Bor-Gullet... AND.... drum roll please.... TWO-TUBES thank you very much... so cool he's in two Disney films.

Watch him become the where's-Waldo of the SW Disney.
