Honestly, this should be compared to The Wire or even The Shield and not Sopranos.

I finally got around to reading the link you posted, and yes. Absolutely. I have no doubts that was exactly what went down and I barely read a quarter of his argument.
I watched it at the end of a three day marathon of the final season. I was so keyed up by the time it was over, I had a panic attack driving to work a half hour later. It's all perfectly clear now.

Sopranos feels a bit dated watching it now. And I don't mean its setting. Just the way it is directed.
BB has beautiful cinematography, style, and pace.

BrBa is great don't get me wrong, but it doesn't nearly have the rewatchability that Sopranos had. I've never been really captivated by BrBa like I was with Sopranos.

Sopranos everytime, breaking bad was good but not as great as it was made out to be imo
BrBa totally powned Sopranos and I have watched both series. BrBa was both subtle and in your face at the same time not to mention a uniquely told drug dealer story. Don't get it twisted, Sopranos was sharp but BrBa seemed to have a deeper richer story IMHO.
...plus, who knows how to write the greatest finale ever?!?

BrBa is great, but extraordinary overrated.

Not an oxymoron at all. It's great, but it gets highly exaggerated by people on here.

I love both shows but I have to go with Breaking Bad.

Loved the Shield but I don't think I would say its finale surpassed BrBa. It was definitely up there though!
I liked BrBa's ending better. Walt went out on his terms...that was great.
Vic on the other hand got hosed and I was rooting for him to be "Bad/Good Guy Triumphant!"
Just a matter of preference cause I was rooting for Walt too.

I love The Shield.
I would probably rank BB higher than the Shield however if I had to rank shows based on rewatchability, I would rank The Shield higher than BB.
I hear that.. I've just started rewatching TS from S1 haven't watched the complete series since 09 and its just as great as I remember it being.

Vic didn't get hosed? I like more ambiguous endings so I loved The Shield's finale more. BrBa was too neatly wrapped up for me..but it was a good ending.

I wonder how much of the fan commitment is east coast/west coast related. One of the great things about both series was how well they depict the areas they're set in.
They also depict the time periods they're set in really well. Sopranos is like a time capsule of the late 90's/early 00's. Breaking Bad is harder to wrap my head around because the present isn't over yet.
