I am looking to purchase a decent sound system, audio theater system... whatever they call them... well now you see why I need help. :lol Right now I only have two crappy speakers connected to my television and I am looking to go surround sound but I don't want to spend a fortune. Are there any quality packages out there at a reasonable price?

Keep in mind when you respond to this thread with all your technical mumbo jumbo that it will probably just fly right over my head. I really just want to order a sound system, pull it out of the box, connect it to my HDTV, and enjoy. :lol

Price Range $550 and under! GO!

Seriously though, thanks for any help you are able to offer me. :duff

You can wall mount it or in my case put in under your TV on your entertainment system. Mine has trubass surround whatever that means, but it sounds like a fricking movie theater in my place so that's all i need.

If you don't wanna mess with wires or ^^^^ it's the way to go.

Onkyo systems are reasonably priced and good quality. I'm happy with mine but I'm no audiophile. 6.1 Dolby Digital. I had a very nice Pioneer center speaker but like the sound of the center speaker that came with the Onkyo receiver more. They have good quality receivers and the speakers that came with my system are of good quality too.

go to BB and test them out.

Rory, go with Klipsch... they are very nice affordable speakers and are among the best IMO.. especially for the price range you're looking at.

TRUST ME RORY MY UNICORN SISTER, KLIPSCH ROCKS!

Not sure bro, you'd have to ask. It's actually my first purchase with RS. Gotta say i'm pleased.

(I'm sure it's a pretty standard policy)

200$ for 99$ is what sold me.

I like the idea of not having to deal with too many wires so the soundbar is a definite option.

Heres the deal though. Do I need a receiver for all these speakers? I think I do but all of them seem to come with a dvd player of some sort and that's just unnecessary for me since I use my PS3 for all my movie watching. I was looking at some Onkyo packages but I am still uncertain. I know this is probably way out of my budget but how about wireless speakers? What are the pros and cons... do they even exist?

Thanks again guys!

Hmmm. I wonder if this is still available in the store... I will have to go check this out.

I'm sure they're in the store that's where i got mine.

And yes you will need a receiver if you go the other route

GL!

(not sure when the RS SALE ends)

The best set anywhere under $1,000:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882115124

I own it, ^^^^ing amazing! The sound is truly awesome.

Here are a few reasons why it rules over all other:

-It comes with an actual receiver, not a fake BS DVD player that simulates a receiver. This can be very important because you will get better sound and it is far more versatile.

-The speakers are large and encased in wood. Compared to most other sets in this range that are plastic. If you take your hands and cover your mouth and talk, that is what all the other sets will sound like, the small speakers muffle and mute the sound. Now slowly take your hands away from your mouth and speak, you get that nice clarity from these speakers.

-You can hook it up HD and all. I got the PS3 and 360 hooked up to it to an HDTV w/ 5.1. Now, none of this is ever easy. You will need to buy some extra cables (HDMI for ps3, and/or standard RCA for 360) to hook it all up properly. And if you want true 5.1 you will also need to get a digital optical cable. I highly recommend you buy the cables from newegg.com as well as it is 80% cheaper than bestbuy or any retail store.

And if you own any DVD-A music, be prepared to be amazed.
