I know there are enough threads and posts regarding the lack of LotR stuff but I thought I'd share this info I put together at lunch today...

November 10, 2005 - Sideshow Announce PF Line
December 25, 2005 - Sideshow Announce 12" Line
July 24, 2006 - Sideshow Announce Legendary Scale Bust Line
February 25, 2007 - Sideshow Announce Diorama Line

February 17, 2006 - Gentle Giant Announce Bust and Animaquette License

- In 587 days we have 3 PF figures announced with 2 delivered. There hasn't been a preorder in 496 days.

- In 542 days we have 4 12" Figures announced and delivered. There currently isn't any announcements for upcoming figures.

- In 332 days we have 3 Legendary Scale Bust announcements with all three shipped.

- In 146 days we have 2 Diorama announcements with both already preordered.

- In 488 days we have 9 busts announced by Gentle Giant with 8 preordered and one available at SDCC. 3 have shipped.

- In 488 days we have 5 animaquettes announced by GG with 3 outstanding preorders and 2 shipped.

I don't know if all this necessarily means anything but it's interesting none the less. To me the trend toward and frequency of fully sculpted non-mixed media seems evident. It makes me sad because I love Premium Format. :monkey2

:google That's a long time for any new announcement/pre-order in the PF and 12" line. I really don't know what sideshow is thinking but if we don't get any previews during SDCC of anymore 12" figures than I am out!:monkey4

I'm with ya, I love PF and 1/6...wish they'd keep those more regular...at least 4 - 6 12" announcements per year and 2 - 3 PF announcements per year.

Bravo on calculating those numbers...I, too am sad....I only collect the PF and old Weta lines, so unless I want to shell out major cash for some of the Weta pieces I missed, I am left with basically the hope of more PF's (other than Gandalf!) :monkey2

I think the Dio's will end up being the line that stays honestly. Cause they will end up being easier to produce and get shipped out.

L....A...M....E.... :monkey4 :cuss

All this speculation had better be wrong.

I have no interesst in any other line then the Dio's...

But I feel for you others, I can't imagine what SS is thinking!? How can they believe people will keep collecting with all the redicoulos time passing!!!??

I won't claim to understand the cost involved with design, development, manufacturing, etc. of the mixed media stuff but it seems obvious to me that fully sculpted is easier and more cost effective to produce. It's not just Sideshow, at what rate does Cinemaquette produce mixed media product? Unfortunately for me, I like the PF figures the most so it just makes me sad that we don't get at least 3 per year. :monkey2

You forgot one date Fritz:
June 21, 2007 - The day we found out Fritz has way too much time on his hands.:monkey5 :monkey5 :monkey5

Must have taken quite a while to crunch those numbers and put it up here.... you must be really counting the days!! :rotfl

Some more stastics---

Number of Frodo PF figures left: More than 100 (no low quantity alert)

Number of Lurtz PF figures left: More than 100 (no low quantity alert)

They are stuck with a ton of unsold figures from the first two releases in the PF line. And I would bet that these took more time and effort and development than the other lines, which have sold out. So if they do the math, they probably don't think that these are popular enough to keep the line alive and they are investing their limited time and resources elsewhere.

Sad but true. Though some people don't want to admit it, the LOTR craze has run it's course. SS is obviously aware of this, and it's something we are just going to have to live with.
Hopefully the LS line will survive [I'd love to see a ringwraith and balrog bust produced] as it seems to me this is perhaps the most cost efficient line SS has.
As for the PF's, I don't know how many more SS will produce if they aren't selling out. I can certainly understand why Frodo is still available, but Lurtz is stunning and it's still not sold out  Perhaps SS will have to consider lowering future edition sizes, but at what point will the effort to produce these PF's not be worth the financial reward

This is what Sideshow needs to do IMO.

Drop all lines but the PF and 1:6 (I would even say drop the PF line:monkey3 ).

Eliminate the exclusives and make them available in the regular editions.

Lower the ES.

just my .02. Please don't kill me. :horror
