They'd been trying to get the feel that the Connery era had back for so long and I thought in Skyfall they finally achieved it.

I thought Casino Royale had a little bit of that too, but Skyfall did it better.

Skyfall tried to add a few moments of "a light touch" to Craig's Bond but the film just dragged on and on spending way too much time in "preparation" scenes. Tracking Patrice took too long, prepping in Scotland took too long, the Joker plan took too long (with that silly train bit). I watch that movie and see so many edits that could be made to really tighten up the movie into a great 2hr Bond film.

I agree with Wor, those items hold the movie back.

Even more so is the big "Skyfall" reveal.

Skyfall does sag in the middle however its still far and away above anything Brosnan did as Bond. If only the Broccoli's didn't screw Timothy Dalton about we may have seen a Bond film to equal Connery's, certainly the original script treatment for Dalton in For Your Eyes Only may have been violent and portrayed Bond being more ruthless but I think it would've re-launched the series the way Casino Royale did.

My favourite is Dr No. There's just something fresh about it I'm attracted to more than the other Bond movies I've seen.

You guys didn't mind the Home Alone ending?

This. While I agree that there were a lot of edits that could've been made, Skyfall was shaping up to be right up there with one of my favorites up until they got to Skyfall. Once I started getting that Home Alone vibe and had that christmasy theme song get stuck in my head in the theater, I was pulled out of the film.

I also think the old groundskeeper could have been completely removed. I realize the actor is very well-known, and the role was written for Connery, but once Connery passed it should have been removed. Didn't really add much and the mentor role could've been filled by M, which would've both tied in to her actions throughout the film as a leader and a mentor, and gave the ending even more punch.

Those two MINOR changes would've made for a near perfect Bond flick in my book.

As far as favorite films? Jeez. That's hard to do. My favorite is probably Dalton's Licence to Kill, with Casino Royale being up there along with From Russia With Love.

I also have a soft spot for Tomorrow Never Dies. As cheesy and badly done as it ended up being, it was really in keeping with the times it was made (mass media/internet blowup), and made for a really interesting play on manipulating the media. The execution was severely lacking, though.

Maybe it's part of the 90's N64 part of my youth...but if I had to pick a Brosnan film to be stuck with it would be Goldeneye.

Snow outfit is the most distinctive. Also, cool spy style. Definitely the outfit of choice for me for a "Spectre" figure.

That's probably down to it being written for Dalton and only about 10-15% was altered to suit Brosnan.
