I'm not one for long posts. I'll try to keep this brie, but I honestly don't think I'll be able to!

Speed Racer is a soon to be classic film and cult hit! Mark my words. I'm far from a Speed Racer fan, I never like the cartoon as a child of the 80's, nor am I hugely into asian cartoons, I love them when I see them, but don't follow the releases closely. Mind you I did grow up loving Astroboy!

But tonight I saw Speed Racers... and I honestly think it was one of the greatest cinema experiences I have had. It was amazing, maybe due to my surprise I loved this movie because of my lack of love for the character or expecting it to be a poor movie, due to all of the mixed reviews. But I loved this movie, it was nothing like I ever seen in a cinema, maybe that's because of the amazing colour palette. I was expecting that I wouldn't understand or follow the actions scenes, but I was there bump for bump, crash for crash and following it all! I was really surprised about how much i loved all of the characters, Heroes and Villains... Racer X was awesome! And John Goodman did an Amazing job in this movie, one of the better characters I've seen him play. Emil did a great job as Speed... A new Hero in my book!

Th Important Bit!
I'm not going to go on about the movie and I know this movie would be for everyone tastes, but for everyone here; on this Forum... who posts, lurks or just loves movies period. Please see Speed Racer as it is one of those movies that captured something very special and excited me in a way that I have only experienced a couple of times... When I saw a man fly out of a revolving door and catch a falling woman and Helicopter in one swoop or when he flew back into Metropolis to face down 3 villians set to kill him. When I watch "In-valid" Vincent out swim his "valid" brother only to walk on a spaceship for a tour around Saturn. When I watch a gladiator become more powerful in death than an Emperor of Rome. When I saw a down and out man in his 40's recapture the spirit of his youth before being killed by his closet homosexual neighbour. Watching a Web-slinger almost die training to stop a train full of people. We I saw Rocky... I could go on, but I won't... Basically I saw something entirely new tonight and like those movies I've seen before it. I left feeling... inspired by it! And glad that I saw it at the Cinema, not on DVD, not on Blu-Ray and definitely not in some private video file on my computer! So if you are a fan of the movies (you'd have to be to spend the vast sums of money we do on the collectibles spawned from them.) go see Speed Racer at the Cinemas, you owe the art-form that much!

for some odd reason I havent written this movie off based on early opinions...

It looked SO over the top I was thikning it might work well by just creating its own world.... this makes me think that even moreso... :monkey1

I liked it myself. I can see opinions being split, but it's definitely not the train-wreck that some of the reviews implied. I'll be buying it when it comes out on Blu-ray.

I too really enjoyed this movie and interestingly, my wife who accompanied me just to be nice ended up really loving it too...

Grange, you have just summed up my entire experience when I saw Speed Racer opening night on the IMAX. I was more than pleasantly surprised and I was more than heart broken to find that the film was not just a flop but an unpopular flop amongst the fanboys.
Just from reading the responses a lot of the people who spoke negatively of this film also had not seen it. Hopefully your post will encourage others to take a chance on Speed Racer. I loved it, I have a whole new respect for Matthew Fox after seeing this film.

If you are interested at all in an escape from reality for pure entertainment, checkout Speed Racer.

Grange, Thank you.

Now I'm interested as well, I just wrote it off as big buget fluff... now I'll have to check i out :rock

The little girl I nanny for really, really wanted to see this movie (her cousin couldn't stop talking about it) so I took her to see it. I thought it was a feast for the eyes. I went in with zero expectations, thinking I would hate it, and I was thoroughly entertained. It was really a spectacular sight. The effects and colors are just amazing to see. I did find it a little long, but that would be my only minor complaint. I think it's definitely worth a viewing, just for the effects alone - very, VERY impressive. I seriously, was blown away by how awesome it looked and think I enjoyed it more than the little girl I took with me. :lol

This is the only reason I have been thinking about seeing it.

Cult Classic??

I watched the toon back in the day but there was nothing that made me want to see this flick.

I enjoyed the movie a lot too! Matthew Fox as Racer X was great and John Goodman was very good too.

As everyone else mentioned, it is a feast for the eyes, I loved all the colors and this movie actually had me on the edge of my seat. That phrase gets thrown around a lot, but I actually found myself gripping the arm rest hoping Speed wouldn't crash. Great movie!:joy

I was going to completely ignore this movie but now you've got me interested. Ive watched the music video and it does look like a film made for cinema.
