SS getting a little dull on EX's??

I think SS is getting pretty blah with their EX pieces recently...

PF T-800: cheap endo arm
PF Abomination: Fire hydrant?
PF Legolas: Orc skull
LSB Carnage: a name plate
Dinosauria: AGAIN with the skulls!

ect ect....

In my opinion theirs nothing really "exlusive" about any of these things. They seem more to be last minute add on's. So where's the incentive to buy an EX version of something when most people would opt to get the piece without it. The only PF so far IMO that represented a good "exlusive" piece was 300's King Leonidas. But thats about it.....why SS have you gone down hill with these cheap EX ideas. Curious what others opinions are on this...

i agree, lots of dull last minute EX accessories (although i really like the T800 endo arm)

As far as Marvel, Ex's which I feel have been well designed and implemented:

Plus Leonidas as you mentioned which really is a MUST OWN Ex!

Hmm, you might have a vaild point. Spidey's camera, Abom's hydrant and Conan's broken sword are somewhat lacking in appeal.

Without a doubt there is some questionable decisions that have been made with some of the pieces.

Indy without his hat?...come on!
Blackbeard-boarding axe...eh!

But there has been some good ones too.

Of the ones I have on order:

Berserker-severed head (Great)
Patient Zero-severed hand (Great)

X-23-locket (decent)

Ken- won't know until I see updated pics with the new face

I agree though SS needs to up their game by being more creative.

I hear of too many collectors going with 3rd party distributors because they can get it for cheaper.

With some of these prices, I don't blame them.

I agree. I have noticed that PF Regular versions seem to be going significantly cheaper on ebay than what sideshow sells them for, even the new releases, but people on ebay seem to be trying to sell the EX versions for like $100-200++

the Hellboy pF was a good one with the Big Baby ....

I received my T-800 yesterday and the piece is wonderful, but the Endo arm just isn't that great. Dinosauria on the other hand seems appropriate with the skulls.

I think that's the answer right there. My guess is that they don't want to make a piece so exclusive that nobody buys the regular edition. It would suck for SS to have 1500 regulars sitting around while selling out all 350 or so exclusives.

Thing to remember is the exclusive is designed to be something extra to the figure/statue... but not so important that you couldn't live w/o it. the Leonidas is one where I think they broke that rule.

Personally they are a bit hit and miss, but I also think that in general SS does a good job of offering a little something extra for collectors. And as has been said, if you really don't like the exclusive... save few bucks and buy it from a retailer.

I agree. They always have to have an exclusive. I never did understand why every piece needs to have one when you can just combine the overall ES and sell one regular. I think the Ringwraith diorama was a horrible idea as Frodo should have been added to the over all diorama (same base) and there was no need for an exclusive.

We I was a retailer of these items pieces like the Leonidas made the regulars almost unsellable even for SS so it hurt everyone. Same with the Moria Orc PF.

I know people say if you don't like it don't buy it, which is a fine point of view but pieces like the Ringwraith diorama suffer when it could have been a complete scene if they made it all one piece.

Oh, and in reference to the original post... how is an orc skull a weak accessory? I think its pretty badass looking.
