Ok, so we all see SS QC slip on paint apps from time to time. Im wondering though, would we all be willing to pay a bit more for the figures if SS could move their paint application ops from China to the US to have tighter control? Soo if Dusty or Brant came and said : All 1:6 items will raise X amount so we can move to a new local factory to have better control over paint.. would you be ok with it?

My gut instinct says that I would if it would get me the Ben "Obi-Wan" Kenobi that they are showing at CIV but then I remember the body they are using and I cry. So get me a new body first!

It really depends on what the X amount is and how much better the paint apps will be.

The thing that gets me the most is that I know they are capable of better paint apps right now. I remember opening up Jedi Luke and thinking "wow, that is an awesome figure" because the face and eyes were so lifelike and looking at him today my opinion still hasn't changed.

I hate the fact that they appear to have really oversaw the production of they're starting figure but now have seemed to become lax once everybody has bought into the line.

If every SW figure off the line since Jedi Luke had the same careful paint apps then I doubt most people would be so shocked to see the production piece after looking at the prototype months in advance. Just IMHO.

Regardless of my nits over these figures I still really like them especially for what they charge.

Id want to see the price too. If it was small, say and extra 5, but if it was 10 or 15, maybe not. The body doesnt bother me as they do what I need them to do, but its the paint that sometimes really throws a figure and Id love to see them more closely match the proto.

They ought to improve on everything without any price increase. Even raising the price all around for a new body would be ridiculous. I don't believe they would do that but some people talk as if that would happen. Maybe to deter the demands for a new body type because that would mean improvement was needed and they don't want to hear it because they've attached their egos to the company. a vocal minority

I'm not a completist so it wouldn't effect me as much. To have perfect paint on my favorite characters, I would shell out some more greenbacks for that! :D

Same here but I am getting quite fed up with perfect paint apps on prototype pieces and inferior paint apps on production pieces.

I think Sideshow needs to make a perfect figure with no flaws and 100% accuracy and drop the price to like $40 shipped! That would be awesome :rock

Friends, this is a flawed argument. There is no such thing as perfect paint apps. It is art, and therefore up to each individual to determine.

It doesn't matter what factory you take your business to, or how much you raise the price. Even custom painters of high caliber like Les, Josh, Darren, and myself (humbly, and others) are not immune to the myth of "perfect paint." I look back on some of my old work, that I was completely pleased with, and I see how much improvement needs to be done.

There is no such thing as a definitive paint application, any more than there is such a thing as a definitive sculpt. Look at the debate raging over Kenobi PF v. the new 12". I remember when most of you were saying nothing would ever out-do Matt Falls' amazing Kenobi sculpt. Now look.

And I tell you, as much as I love and admire Trev's sculpt, I'm sure even he will agree that there may be someone out there who will do it better someday.

The same holds true for paint.

And I know this is a disturbing and confusing thought, but more money does not always equal higher quality.

Mikey when I mean perfect I mean things like "matching the prto" or "no shiny lips"(see Han). Also with a domestic factory you would think that things like Anakin's lips could have been caught in time and corrected. With a factory in China you have that delay in shipping while production may be continuing. Like Anakin, they didn't catch it in time and so that's how the figures came. With a domestic factory maybe that could change. And besides, this IS just a hypothetical.

Oh, well then...

No, I wouldn't want to pay more for better apps.

I'd rather pay less for NO apps. :D

The paint apps on a production piece will never match the same exact level we see on a proto.

True that... it's just impossible to match up to that level of detail. The only way it could be done would be by a very small company with in house painters and small edition sizes. I.E.... Les' and I future company... :lol

j/k....:D

I got dibs on the first few products and stock in the company. :)

:clap :clap :clap :clap

Well said Mikey, I think you really summed it up!

I'm generally satisfied with SSC's production paintjobs.

I'd be much more willing to pay a little more for improved tailoring. As much as people complain about the production paint apps. and Buck body, I think sloppy tailoring is truly the biggest flaw on Sideshow figures.
