Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

The minority, maybe. But you are not alone. Although I am happy with the Sideshow offerings, I do like this design better.

I can understand that it is just different taste. Some want their figures to be exactly like the 80's figures. I do not. I like the characters being married up with modern equipment. Modern is far cooler than the 80's equipment, to me. The 80's stuff was cool in the 80's. It no longer is cool. I also understand that some collect purely for nostalgia. I do not. I play with these things and I make no apologies for it.

Everyone picks and chooses what they find to be cool. And everyone has their own reasons for it. Hell, even some of those who claim to be purists are OK with Snake Eyes being passed off as a Ninja.

The single thing that I dislike about the whole situation is some of the angst that gets passed around between the collectors just because of differing opinions. Sometimes I wonder if they ever actually go back and read their posts and see how ridiculous they sound.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think that a back-and-forth like this...

Collector 1: "The new Sideshow GI Joe figure is being previewed and it looks incredible!"

Collector 2 (AKA Sideshow Freaks GI Joe Nazi): "I saw that preview and the figure looks nothing like the card art from over 30 years ago. There is a 2 hue color difference from the color that was on the character's shirt in one of the episodes of GI Joe: A Real American Hero that I saw and consider to be the only canon example of the character."

Collector 3 (AkA Sideshow Freaks Drama Queen): "Yeah...what Nazi said! Sideshow is the very worst company on Earth at making figures. I wish a company like Hot Toys would take over the license."

Collector 4 (AKA Sideshow Freaks Sideshow Toys Apologist): "You guys suck! You should all die and rot in Hell! Who are you to dog on Sideshow for not being perfect? You're not perfect! And Hot Toys figures suck more than Sideshows!"

Collector 5 (AKA Sideshow Freaks GI Joe Nazi Minister of Propaganda): "You guys had better stop this back and forth or I will delete all the posts except the ones that point out the difference between this figure and the original card art...and then I will infract those with deleted posts!"

...is stupid.:)

Guilty as charged, and make no apology about it.:lol

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

It was meant to make everyone laugh. That is why there is a smiley face at the bottom. Sorry if it didn't work. I have been jokingly calling the purists "GI Joe Nazis" for a long time...even before you were a member on this forum. Those guys who I am talking about know it.

So... it was meant to be ironic, so it obviously worked :lol

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

The interest here for purists who want more faithfulness to the GI Joe source material is nostalgia. Staying very close to the source meets that interest.
It seems to me a lot of people who want updated Joes don't seek that sense of nostalgia and just want cool looking modern figures.

There's a way to satisfy both Joe collectors and what I think Sideshow originally tried to do but seems to forget at times, have a figure faithful to it's source with some unique modern add-ons and not modifications to the source material.
They did that with Duke by giving him a Go Bag update that you can remove the strap to recreate the source Duke bandolier. They almost did the same with the Crimson Guard, but for some reason decided the uniform needed to be changed.
Of all of them, I think Firefly is the biggest issue. He's had a total modification or update to the source material. Personally I love the figure, but I would've also loved a more faithful rendition. I think they should've just made the hoodie jacket an additional add-on along with a source jacket and thrown in some separate black leg panel add-ons and kept the rest accurate to the source to satisfy everyone.

With the new Cobra Commander Sideshow can satisfy both interests by including a more source looking helmet along with an updated helmet in the package. This might be the case. It's just to early to tell what has been done, all we have is a bad photoshopped image to go on.

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

I agree the main lure to GI Joe figs is the nostalgia for me and i couldn't give a rats *** about the film figs tbh.

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

I've kept a few of mine and what I loved was the blend of my childhood/update just a bit. It's what has made this line one of Sideshow's best lines.

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

I like the long, trench-coat look for Cobra Commander. I think it worked well in Retaliation and especially worked well on the Resolute Cobra Commander design and figure. One of my most favorite interpretations of Cobra Commander.

It is funny to hear all the different opinions. To me Firefly is the only figure I think Sideshow got spot on; with a mix of the old and new (especially once they added the camo head). He is my favorite sideshow GIJoe figure hands down.

I still don't understand the pants and uniforms they used on all the Joe figures. So many cool modern BDU's to choose from and they make ish up. Take a look at the FAMCON Soldier Story exclusive figure and you get an idea of how I would have envisioned Duke's outfit. Again, I know I'm probably in the minority about wanting some modern updates.

I'm looking forward to helmeted Cobra Commander because I think he should have been done first and is more iconic. So far I think it looks like it might be good.

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

i though the movie version of cobra commander will be done by Hot toys

i prefer if SS just stick to the ARAH line , the classic version with just a few modern updates. SSt been doing a pretty good job so far

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

Hot Toys probably couldn't do a movie CC version because Sideshow probably told them NO! We are doing ours and putting them for sale together would compete........likely is why we won't see a Sideshow Roadblock now for a while

That's a cape not a trench coat. We already got a fugly trench coat with the first CC.

at SDCC

I do hope Snowjob shows up soon though! he is a Big character for me.Sideshow has made it clear he is one they want to do...

I wonder if we are going to get a SDCC Exclusive this year (likely a Joe character)....things have been pretty quiet there

Re: SS Facebook announcement G.I. JOE: Helmeted Cobra Commander

C'mon Crimson Twins! . . .I know it isn't gonna happen :(

I agree,Tomax/Xamot are perfect for exclusives...though they would be easily 299.99 for the pair (still bought)
