HOF started the rebirth of 1:6 in the early 90's, the starwars, dragon, and 21st century would not have even existed if it was'nt for the hall of fame. There was no 12" action figures since the adventure team ended in the 70s. They might not have been great figures but they did serve an important milestone.

The Adventure Team line of figures ended in 1976. We were getting 12" Star Wars figures in 1978. There was also a 12" Indy released by (Kenner?) and Raiders didn't come out until 1981. Might want to double check your info.

:slapDid'nt know about them, before my time. Anyway you get my point I hope, people started collecting at many differant points in time. Alot started in the 90's and even with the 78 starwars figures you meantioned there was no 12" line for over a decade since then. I'm sure even the 90's collectors that never had a hof and only collected dragon or 21st century or whatever still have to amit 12" started back up with the hof. In the end 1964 gijoe started it all:)

You forgot Indy who was released at some point after 1981. Anyway, you're also completely ignoring the Japanese market which had a substantial import base here as well. As for influencing, we'll agree to disagree. If anything, IMHO, the HOF figures and their goofy, cartoony looks, cheap outfits and oversized accessories showed WHY Hasbro shouldn't be making 12" figures anymore. Not taking anything away from Hasbro for inventing the "Action Figure" back in the day, but it was companies like Dragon and 21st Century that would come in after the drought and show that you could have kickass 1:6 army figures who actually looked realistic with uniforms, weapons, gear, etc. They're the pioneers who paved the way for the current 1:6 generation (no doubt influenced by early Hasbro, but certainly not the HOF garbage).

My first SSC 1/6 figure was R. Lee Ermy. He was pretty horrid, too.

Love the sound bites from that one, R. Lee Ermy reminds me alot of my late father, He was'nt very loving, but I have fond memories of him yelling it me like Ermy as a drill instructor:lol

@Nam-See, I didn't start seeing those til the late 90's. Although, ( was a much more casual collector then. Back then, my main hobby was skirt chasing.

OK OK I get it:pfft: I agree hof was not that good, and dragon and 21st century did take it to another level back then. I'm gonna leave it at that, I don't feel the need to force my opinion on anyone, it is just the way I see it and other are free to there own ideas. Sorry if I derailed this thread, now back to Rock n Roll:)

Oops. While editing, I deleted a couple sentences. I'd originally said that if HOF got you into collecting, that's great. But that I didn't think it was the "reason" most others do. Sorry about that. :lol

Its cool:cool: Yeah Hall of fame got me started collecting, guess its a nostalga thing for me:)

12" Hasbro definitely got me into collecting 1/6th scale. It was with the SW line back in 1995 or so. I didn't collect the GI Joe HOF though. I did collect their CC collection and then 21st Century.

Its funny how 21st Century is perceived as helping the resurgence, but looking back their stuff was pretty cheap too. I really think the mass production of Hasbro and 21C did more for the hobby than high end collectors admit to.

I would agree 21st Century helped get us to where we are now. While crude now, their stuff was way more detailed than the HOF/Classic Collection stuff of the time.

I thought it was fairly on par with some of the CC sets. Maybe the upper end CCs like the DDay soldier.

What I thought was most amazing about 21st was that they offered those carded sets with such a variety of weapons and gear. Wish that trend continued through today.

This figure actually looks pretty cool. And I'm not even a GI Joe collector. If that EX ever comes back up on SS's site, I might just have to make an impulse buy.

i had always seen 12" figures in stores but did not know about the 1/6 high end collecting until febuary of 2011. i have been balls to the wall since. always loved my 3 3/4 but there is no comparison to these joes.
