Especially when it's a barely altered version of what's probably the most recognisable firearm in the world.

At least they made an attempt to disguise them.

George got away with a lot more on the cheap back in the day, pulling weapons straight out of the prop store.

The AK-47 right at the beginning of the trailer took me right out of it though. It may have been intentional, because Lucas wrote Star Wars as an allegory of the plucky rebels (Viet Cong) versus the evil Empire (USA).

Back in a 1973 note on “Star Wars,” Lucas made clear which side he was rooting for in the Vietnam War: “A large technological empire going after a small group of freedom fighters.”

Vietnam, it turns out, was a strong undercurrent in the thinking of Lucas (who was rejected for the draft because he was diabetic). Even before he made “Star Wars,” he wanted to make a documentary-style antiwar film on Vietnam that was to be called, in a title devised by his friend John Milius, “Apocalypse Now.” (The project passed on to another Lucas compadre, Francis Ford Coppola, who had given Lucas his first movie job working on the musical “Finian’s Rainbow.”)

Lucas saw “Apocalypse,” “American Graffiti” (set in 1962) and “Star Wars” as a loosely linked thematic trilogy exploring the war in Southeast Asia, the prelapsarian glory before it and the fascistic Empire-ruled aftermath (“Star Wars” was originally set in the 33rd century).

I'm almost afraid to be excited about some new SW but that poster and the new trailer look really good.

KKLF - please don't tease us with something good only to muck it up with cuteness and identity BS. Let us have one good thing after the two previous stiffs.

One shot in that trailer that was simply awesome was the glimpse of the Imperial Senate with the Imperial insignia at the bottom of the podium. Delightfully chilling!

I so want this to be on the level of Rogue One. Fingers crossed to breaking...

All jokes aside I do think this looks incredible. Actually excited for this.

If only BOBF and Kenobi looked anywhere near this good visually too.

It has the visuals, plus it also looks more serious than either TBOBF or OWK.

More Rogue One than Sequel Trilogy.

Political and gritty drama + spy thriller looks to be some of the best Star Wars has to offer.

Also calling it now, Skarsgård (Luthen Rael and his ship) looks like the most outstanding new character(s) about to run away with this series.

Weird, from the trailer it doesn't seem to be on-brand for Disney Star Wars.

I jotted this quote down because it applied to something else I had in mind:

"Wouldn't you rather give it all to something real?"

But maybe it applies to something more at home for Disney Star Wars?

Rogue One was one of the darker entries in the history of Star Wars. It stands to reason Andor will be in similar vein. There's been a lot of humour and silliness in the series recently, but this looks like a return to something more "real".

It gives more confirmation to my thought that the AK-47 was placed there intentionally and prominently, as a pointer to the "real" history behind the genesis of Star Wars itself.

That's if there really are still some brains involved in making these things now. :lol

Looks OK. But it's a SW Disney show on D+. Odds are not in it's favor. So, low expectations should be the key in order for it to succeed...

I’m fine with the Disney+ shows for the most part but this was made with a bit of a different mission statement.

It’s intended to be more cinematic, gritty, and to feel like it fit in right next to Rogue One. They’ve said they didn’t use The Volume.

I’m pretty excited for it based on what I’ve seen and heard. The era is a favorite and the show seems to be expanding on exactly what I’d like to see more of personally.

If they’re dumping the first three episodes up front, this show is weak

That doesn’t mean it’s weak. The show is a lot longer at 12 episodes and it was delayed. They’ve got other shows scheduled behind it.
