I'm pretty sure Star Wars tickets were not $4 in 1977. I think I remember ESB bringing prices up to $3.50. So at best, Star Wars was $3 a showing. The place I went to, a UA cinema I believe, had matinee shows at noon for $2.25.

I could spend a whole day at the mall -- lunch, movie and video games at the arcade, plus bus fair round trip -- for $10 in 1977.
Was a cup of coffee ten cents like in BTTF? :lol

But yeah movie tickets in Westwood in L.A. were $5 in 1989/90 and that was likely the most expensive in the nation, so I can't imagine tickets were $4 more than a decade earlier.

I do think it was Batman that hit the $5 mark that summer for ticket prices. I used to know the .25 cent increments and which films did it back in the day. So long ago now...

I think coffee at Ships was .45 cents in early/mid 80's.

Wow that studio audience is such a motley crew of 1970s cliches.:rotflEveryone is a porn star, serial killer, bowl-cut+pocket protector or cult member.

But at least it has distinct flavor - I think it was Zemeckis on a podcast who recently noted every decade has its specific look/style and flavor until the 2000s, so for last 20-25 years it's all pretty much interchangeable across arts, fashion, music etc. Someone from 2005 really doesn't look that different from 2025.

And what great coffee that would have been. :lol I've been rewatching Mad Men and in an early episode set in 1963 someone says nobody under the age of 30 drinks coffee - it was bracing army surplus stuff your dad drank.

Ugh, don't remind me - in 1990 my roommate on Butler had this enormous Batman '89 cardboard standee thing that took up a full 1/4 of our apartment's living room. But hey - movies ruled back then.

Other theaters got it, soon after the insane lines started.

"Film opened in just 32 screens nationwide, It wasn't till June 17 that the release widened significantly, reaching 157 screens.
The height of the film’s US release would not come until August 5, when it was on 1,044 screens."

The 80’s were crazy.

I was working at a video store when a motorcycle group rode in on their harleys, pick up trucks and a van.

They were contractors at a nuclear power plant and their contract was over for the season and they were returning all of their tapes.

I’m standing at the counter next to my boss, the owner of the store and this big bald dude puts his tapes on the counter and then proceeds to open a huge photo album to show me dozens of naked girls that looked 17 to 22 all with their legs spread open

The bald dude asked me right in front of the owner if I would like to be in bed with these girls, all I had to do was go with their group and jump into the van at the end of my shift which was over in an hour.

I said no thank you I had family waiting for me and the bald guy politely said no problem, paid their late fees and they left.

I never saw them again since I left the job to go start college.

Yay 80’s lol
