One of the major issues I have with this film is how Rey

all of a sudden discovers her powers and then beats a guy who has training and who is highly skilled....not even Finn, who has training had a chance against Kylo, yet that chick with zero training just dominates the villain...something not even Luke SKywalker was able to do in ESB, and he had more training that Rey....that made no sense.

The 'force awakened' in her earlier in the film when Anakin/Luke's saber called to her probably with a little help from Luke or the force itself. He wasn't just standing there admiring the view when she arrived and for all we know she could have Yoda like power. Also, Anakin/Luke saber>(a saber Ren covets btw) Kylo Rens homemade job. Not to mention the dude had just fulfilled his destiny by killing his father and was just shot in the stomach by Chewy.

The best thing about watching SW in 77 was that I had no idea what it meant to be an actor or who Sir Alec or Cushing were, I just gazed up at them in awe.

My son was doing the same thing lastnight.

Sucks being an adult. :lol

jye and a-dev, did you guys give TFA thumbs up or thumbs down? I'd ask DiFabio the same but in the BvS thread he said he considers ANH and ESB to be the only real SW film so I suppose that answers that.

Jye's pre-theatre youtube vid and post-mortem posts present a sad, sad tale of woe

I don't hate the Force Awakens, just like I don't hate Return of the Jedi (sister Leia, Ewoks) or the Phantom Menace (Jar Jar, gungans, Annie). Force Awakens was alright.

I wish Poe was Force sensitive :monkey2 Maybe he is?

I'm seeing a lot of people bring up "force sensitivity", which, within context makes it sound like only a select few can obtain force powers (da Skywalkas). Hmmm. Maybe midicholrians weren't such a bad idea after all? :lol

When I was a kid, I always thought anyone could use the force. Like, if Han wanted to, sure, he could force push and do some fancy lightsaber twirls. Turns out it really is all in your blood.

Highly doubt Rey is "no one" or a peasant girl. The story takes place in less than a day and all of the sudden she's doing a ton of crazy **** and is the best at everything. Bet she's got Skywalker blood.

I really liked the movie, and all of the protagonists were fantastic, but I must say, the villains kind of sucked eggs. Ren reminded me of a petulant brat, so, basically,
just like his grandpa, with his "nobody understands me! I wish Grandpa Vader was still here!" schtick.
Hux was supposed to be the Tarkin analogue, it seemed like, but Gleeson was completely unintimidating. He seemed more like the sniveling, baby faced Hitler Youth fanboy than the badass general they wanted us to see. Lastly, though, Phasma. They made such a big deal out of the character and it was just kind of like "meh."
She's only in the movie for like 30 seconds, and her role pretty much begins and ends with her getting pulled into a broom closet and surrendering to the Resistance. Maybe they have more plans for the sequels, but, just judging her by this film, talk about a let-down.

Also, while I really, really liked this movie, there's also another part of me that's just like **** this movie.
You don't kill Han Solo, you ****ers. I honestly don't buy Ren as his son. There's no way such a whiny little ***** would come from the loins of the most badass smuggler in the galaxy. You know he gets that **** from his mother's side, I guess.:lol

Poe, Finn, Rey, and BB-8 were all fantastic, though. They all had great chemistry and were, just, all around, really cool characters.

Yeah, but her dad wasn't.:lol

So you got prequel Anakin vibes from him too. Yeah, so did I.

Considering he worships all things Vader and wanted his original lightsaber, I assume that was the intent. Driver certainly channeled the angsty emo rage of Annie to a t.

Killed padawans, his peers and betrayed his family and friends like that bastard too

Yup, as always, you nailed it.:lol The kicker is that he's worshipping an ideal that was, ultimately, betrayed by the man, himself.
The Solo clan probably could've saved themselves a lot of trouble if they'd just said "you do know that, even after all the **** he pulled, your Grandpa eventually killed the Sith emperor and saved your Uncle, right?

But she was a feisty little bad ass too?

All of the Skywalker's are whiny is seems until they become full fledged Jedi or Sith because of the emotions Yoda warns about. At least Luke and Kylo aren't wooden.

Growing up, I never gave it much thought, but I know that before the prequels came out, I didn't think everyone could use the force for some reason, even though the force was a type of magic and religion, which means people who believe in it can have access to it? Then again, maybe the force is not something that everyone can access. However, anyone from anywhere regardless of background, race, species..etc...can have access to it. It reminds me of the ending speech from Ratatouille,

" I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau’s famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize that only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau’s, who is, in this critic’s opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France."

Yoda is the best example that a Jedi can come from anywhere.

At least Luke and Kylo aren't wooden.

Hamill wasn't good in ANH, especially in the beginning. Even in Empire he wasn't that great. "BUT HANANDLEIA WILL DIE IF I DON'T".

What if Rey turns out to be Luke and Leia's Lovechild. After all she was abandoned.
