They (Abrams) don't need to start the film with any explanation of anything thats happened in either the earlier films or the time between RotJ and Ep7. Just go straight into the story and let the audience figure out who the new characters are, everyone knows who the OT characters are already. Thats were GL failed in, he spent to much time explaning who eeryone was and why they were there.

Been saying this all along. And if this is indeed the case, no need to toss out the entire EU from continuity. I agree the NJO and everything past that will likely be absent, but mostly everything else could probably remain without affecting the new trilogy much.
