seeing as how jj is a master of misdirection, obfuscation and flat-out lying ("no no no, khan is not in star trek into darkness"), i'd say most of the episode vii rumours/leaks are bs, or only have a tiny grain of truth to them at best. worst of all are that abrasive gasbag devin faraci's claims. although some of the plot and character points do sound interesting, i'd rather have them do something fresh and not try to homage the original trilogy too much. excessive pandering to the fans never turns out well. example: trek into darkness.

So Rebels is part of the Star Wars Cinematic Universe shtick too?

something about flashbacks that introduce new content is risky... forced... it is 30 some odd years later, do they really need to tread on the OT?

I don't like it. Retroactively introducing something as being there the whole time even though there's been no mention of it in SIX movies

the universe is big enough for everything to exist in it.

yeah this is all made up and everything, but technically there is stuff in the prequels that make no sense with the originals, George was Always making stuff on the fly So I don't know why it has to be a problem now

Been away doing a bit of holiday with my kids and I come back to all this...
Trying to steer clear of spoilers.

I'm not really digging the new Stormtrooper helmet so far. If there are remnants of the Empire, shouldn't things look rougher? I mean, they are not in control of everything anymore... this looks way too sleek.

Yeah, I wonder what the in-universe rationalisation is for the change. Do they have the time and the resources to be bothered revamping the armour for their troops?

OT is known for a "beat up" universe, especially SW, especially the rebellion.

PT comes around and makes everything pretty and shiny.

GL said it was during their elegant period in history, before the Empire destroyed everything.

Should E7 be even more beat up looking, almost Mad Max like, or has the defeat of the Empire made everything perfect looking again.

It should be trashed like you suggested. If its super slick and advanced that suggests the "empire" is now more powerful and advanced than before, which pretty much undermines the entire OT's importance.

"A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away" doesn't suggest Tron Legacy style design. Lucas and Co, were very clever in their design ref in the OT, they looked back to WWI and WWII for a lot of inspiration, it gave it a futuristic but historic look and feel.

It's a new trilogy and I agree that the empire doesn't necessarily mean it's destroyed just because the Emperor and Vader died. Hydra managed to do just fine after Red Skull, I don't see why the Empire can't either. So what if the rebellion "won"? All those soldiers and officers in the Empire just hung up their uniforms and walked away?

I can buy that instead of an Emperor running the Empire single handedly, there could be a group of who runs it in a type of commitee. I remember thinking Tarkin and his guys in the conference room were the "bosses" in ANH.

Its amazing how a real prop in a warehouse (left) looks much better than the cgi render.

That being said, i'm not liking the new look, too sleekish.
