I think it's probably likely they'll have Rian Johnson do episode 9 as well, unless 8 is terrible he'd be a good choice to go ahead and continue it. At some point I expect Joe Johnston to do a Star Wars film, so maybe he'd be an option though he'd be better for a spinoff movie.

Yay! He can both direct and star in the Spacetrooper spinoff!

In all seriousness you should be happy with this announcement. It probably means that LFL sees Rian Johnson as the SW "Russo Bros" and are expanding his influence into future films. So they're actually giving *more* control to talented filmmakers while giving prequel loving hacks and Lego directors the boot.
