I am sure everyone here will love the following quote: "Ms. Hart’s first move was to make the story group entirely female." That doesn't sound incredibly inclusive. However, to muddy things the article later claims the story group is now made up of 7 men and 4 women.

As for what I though about the movie, I would have liked it a lot better if Luke was treated differently. One other quibble is that Holdo's arc would have been a lot more effective if it was Ackbar. Instead we get a rando that didn't quite looked dressed for a military ship while Ackbar gets an off-screen death.

Wow, explains a lot about the problems of Lucasfilm, not Disney, this is a Lucasfilm issue. And that algorithm? How much do you bet thats going up against rom-com's etc?

You can't separate that anti-science SJW video from TLJ, because THAT'S the Post-Modernist nonsense being espoused in the film. See why I'm so angry about this movie? It's not just about the fact that Star Wars is being ruined as a franchise. It's not just that a corporation is purchasing all of Western popular culture, and infecting it with ideological nonsense. The worst of it, is the specifics of the nonsense that we're being spoon fed. It's a cancer. People need to start addressing what has happened in academia, because it's spreading beyond into all areas for society.

As a scientist and an engineer, can you imagine having to obey board members who believe in this crap? The left is AS dangerous as the right, in ignoring science. Everyone thinks that Donald Trump and the republicans have a monopoly on the abandonment of science. Not true. The left is even worse. All of these idealists are a cancer. We have to do something to fix this, because the propaganda is spreading everywhere.

Fully agree. I'm a middle of the road independent who's very concerned about how today's politics is seeping into nearly every part of our lives.

I don’t think I was this insulted during the PT. I’m 42 so I grew up with the OT, somehow it seemed the prequels were not destroying the vision on the characters I loved. But TLJ threw them all in a **** milkshake and shoved it down my throat.

I do get the general impression that folks who are unhappy had expectations that weren't met here. And that's understandable after Force Awakens and Rogue One, which essentially told the fans, "don't worry, we'll check off all the nostalgia buttons and everyone will walk away with smiles on their faces." Now, Disney does an about face, and the reaction is extreme. But that doesn't mean that the story was perfect beyond unmet expectations. I think Iron Man 3 was a better told story overall. But this film was certainly better eye candy.

So hard to divorce those things you mention. You could be right, but with Attack of the Clones, the cheesy jokes, the horrible, overdone CG, the cringe-worthy dialogue, the terrible, unlikable characters. . .I'll take Last Jedi type films any day over anything like the prequels. Warts and all.

This movie was a better made movie than the PT with regard to acting and dialogue, for sure, but it does have some of what you’re describing, just like AOTC:

Silly jokes — Everything with the caretakers was bad, I hadn’t watched the trailer so when I saw the porgs in the falcon during the final battle it seemed like a face palm moment.

CGI — BB-8 driving an AT-ST, honestly that whole scene starts to have some comically bad PT moments after the Resistance ship lightspeeds into it.

That’s just a small sampling of the type of stuff that I took issue with, removing certain moments from this movie would make it far better for me as I didn’t think the tone really worked. For me it’s not totally about doing something different with the story necessarily.

But the CGI was also overused. Poe flies his X-Wing around like it’s a motorcycle. What a Rogue One and even TFA did right in their space battles sequences was to at least be faithful to how these ships fly in the OT. Snoke uses his force powers not in frightening ways but in comic ways. That’s total PT usage of the force. Throwing people around the room like rag dolls, so many plasticky moments.

Folks have tons of reasons for not liking this flick it seems. Not all about met expectations, other than it fitting into the SW mold. Everyone criticized TFA for following ANH so much but this movie seems to have borrowed so much from ESB/ROTJ that it seems to be the least of their issues.

The worst part is not even the sjw stuff.
It sucked for legitimate inconsistencies in the plot that was written by a guy that hated the force awakens or he doesnt understand what JJ was building.
Rose and Poe had no romantic interactions before their kiss. The admiral should have just told the crew the plan and nobody would have mutinied. The hacker had no way of knowing the rebels were already escaping on small ships. And worst off they refuse to make Rey into a properly developed character. They just keep giving her Mary Sue force powers with zero explanation and if you question it you hate women. Despite Luke being crap with the force in the start and Anakin trained for years as an apprentice. No sure. She just happens to be good enough to take down a room of imperial guards and the man that is now the strongest member of the first order.

hes a pop culture icon at this point

they turned him from a noble and optimistic (if naive) do-gooder in to a jaded outcast and murderer without any real explanation

then killed him off and had him die alone on some crappy rock

They didn't explain a lot of things:

-How did the first order get so powerful?

-Who is Snoke? Where did he come from? Why is he powerful?

How can Kylo nearly lose a lightsaber duel to a non force using nobody, yet get the better of both Snoke and Luke Skywalker?

-Why is Rey powerful? Why do lightsabers talk to her?

-Why did Maz have that saber?

-After succeeding in ROTJ why are the rebels so hard up?

-How is Holdo seemingly #2 in rank on a rebel force that seems to number about 50 yet Poe seems to have never met her or even know who she is?

-Were the OT rebels really just too dumb to weaponize hyper space when attacking large ships?

-How is Rey suddenly the boss of Chewbacca on the Falcon? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

- Don't even get me started on all the new force abilities

-etc etc etc
