Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Seriously, Disney must have paid people for the unanimous praise it received. When Luke was milking the space dinosaur, I'm pretty sure it was a metaphor symbolizing Disney's motives for purchasing the franchise.

You could be onto something there. :lol

A lot of Obi Wan Kenobi foreshadowing....

we will see if that materializes to anything else in the final instalment.

hmmmmmmm

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Yes it is! I'm a victim. Don't question the validity of my experiences! #METOO

There are probably support groups out there.

Victims stand up, declare their name and say they'd rather have been ***** by George Lucas.:monkey1

????

I stopped an hour ago.

If you don't like the movie then stop bitching about it on the INTERNET.

stop ruining it for others.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

The impression I got was that this was more than just a "potential" for darkness, and that Luke actually saw something much more powerful and terrifying in Kylo's future. Which is what caused him to react the way he did.

Yeah, i can understand people's frustration with the direction they took Luke's character... but if Luke saw into the "future" that Ben Kylo was down with murdering billions(i assume) of people on three planets with some ridiculous planet-sized weapon a la the Deathstar AND saw him kill his own fricking dad... aka Luke's old pal Han, then he might've turned into the Kenobi role(seeing no redemption in Anakin) and feeling the need to end him, although IT WAS a fleeting moment. You might say Luke drove him to those actions but c'mon... they seem to establish that Snoke already pretty much turned him so it was probably inevitable anyway.

You saw how it affected Obi-Wan when Alderaan was turned into an asteroid field.... dude nearly had a heart attack. Well imagine Luke thinking he could prevent Alderaan from happening on a larger scale and saving Han and all the other terrible things Emo Ren did in the movies and potentially off screen. It's plain to see with this and the whole hermit-act, they turned Luke into a Kenobi/Yoda hybrid which isn't far-fetched because heck, they were the ones that got the man to where he was, or at least a huge influence on him.

At the end of the day, you guys with the ultra hate-mongering are still stuck in this cycle of holding anything new up to the OT.... I stopped that after the PT and and have been able to garner some entertainment from the ST. I'm not saying you have to set your expectations low, just don't expect to have that same captivation you felt from the OT and you'll be fine. For me, the movie was not bad... I could've done without the whole Casino world sequence, but outside of that I can't say i have this compelling urge to have KK fired and for Rian Johnson to never work in this town again(thoroughly enjoyed his helmed episodes of Breaking Bad).

If George Lucas could see this thread, he might feel a bit vindicated though after not pursuing his own sequel trilogy after the backlash from the PT.

If George has watched TLJ he might feel a bit depressed that he sold the rights to Star Wars.

This is another reason I think they’ll jump forward another generation with the next one - it will conveniently explain Leia’s absence.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. JJ will try to distance himself as much as possible from this infuriating hot garbage.

Still doubt he can generate any interest from me in 1 year when the first trailer for IX drops.

Speaking for myself, I'm not concerned with Luke being portrayed as weak nor do I expect the new films to resonate with me the way that the OT did. My reason for hating The Last Jedi is that it was simply not a very good movie. I realize that Game of Thrones is popular, but having several scattershot subplots interwoven throughout a 2.5 hour long movie doesn't make for compelling fiction, even when riding the coat tails of a popular intellectual property. The dialogue was horrendous, and filled with exposition. The plot was unimaginative and anti-climactic. The character design and CGI was underwhelming; Yoda actually looked like a deflated chew toy. The movie was boring, and it failed to achieve pathos.

Worst of all, many of the ideas driving the plot were, frankly, dumb. The worst example: At the end of the movie, why would Luke refrain from telling the rebels to run for their lives, while his Force Ghost PRETENDED to fight against Kylo Ren and the First Order? Luke assumed they'd figure it out for themselves? Seems irrational. You'd think giving them a head start would be constructive.

Edit: I changed my mind. The worst idea was having Yoda's Force Ghost capable of affecting the tangible world. This undermines the logic of the ENTIRE Star Wars franchise.

Witb Carrie Fisher sadly no longer with us, I guess they'll have to bring Billy Dee Williams' Lando back for the next one now.

After all, got to have a beloved original trilogy character to kill off in front of our eyes... :lol

Ask yourself this. Would Yoda or Obi-Wan contimplate murdering someone in their sleep? No, didn't think so.

Lando and Wedge need to be killed off in 9 to bring maximum pain to my ST viewing experience lol.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

For the first time in 40 years I went into a SW movie completely ambivalent. No hype, no excitement, in fact on thurs night when my wife suggested we get the tree on Friday, I sighed and said, “We have to go see SW, I guess.”.

I won’t even reiterate everything you guys have already mentioned. I’ll just say “ditto” and add that even beyond its shortcomings, it’s just really hard for me to get behind a movie where I’m not at all vested in any of the characters. Its pretty disheartening when the most interesting character in a SW movie is Vice Admial Holdo and you’re “favorite” character (Kylo) is simply the one you hate the least.

Just doesn’t feel like SW to me. TFA didn’t either. Rogue One was SW, through and through. If Lucas won’t/can’t come back then get Gareth Edwards to take over this mess. Please.

Rouge One needed massive reshoots by Tony Gilroy. Edwards towed the line to keep his director credit which Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were unwilling to do with Solo hence they got replaced. In other words Edawrds might not be the right person after all. If it's not a big name like Spielberg or Nolan or Cameron I would go for Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. They are HUGE Star Wars fans and said it was their dream to do one.
