so frustrated!! :gah:

I got invited for this weekend stress test (like everyone else who applied) but of course I was away to a wedding THIS weekend so I couldn't play.

When I got back last night around 8pm I thought at least I'd download the client for the next test but my password had already expired. :(

damn that sucks. should've brought your pc with you for the wedding lol.

Question to all of you who played the beta.....will the characters be deleted: 1) between the betas ??? or 2) after the beta before it comes out ????

Can't answer 1 due to NDA. However, EVERY game wipes beta characters before launch. I've never heard of one that didn't.

to all those that beta'ed, did you delete the launcher and files associated when your testing was over or is it still worth keeping?

A new build is being implemented tomorrow. The say you don't have to uninstall... but they do recommend it. The new build will be a 20gb patch. So if you uninstall you'll save room on your hard drive. I guess if you don't the game will be @30-40gb (the original 25 gb DL, plus the 20GB patch although some files are sure to be overwritten). I'm going to uninstall, probably reduce the chance of issues that are file related.

Yeah when beta testing a new build it's always best to wipe everything clean. That way any issues that pop up you know are related to this new build and not some hangover from old files.

Tester page says NDA is lifted. I played a Jedi consular and bounty hunter to lvl 42 so far. The stories for both are great. I won't spoil anything... But I plan on playing 1 toon of each class to 50 because the character stories are so good.

Yey, now I can really talk about it

Ok, so so far I like it a lot, each class is pretty much like a full game of KOTOR in themselves as far as the amount of content, probably even more.

I first did Bounty Hunter--which was pretty cool. I didn't like the companion character (Mako) since you're basically evil and meant to kill people but she doesn't like it when you do. I had gotten to level 18 before the characters were wiped for a new build. Besides that the only issue I had was that there weren't enough options for clothing, if you come across someone else of the same class in the same level they are probably wearing the same armor. Plus there were no headgear options, just a turban thing I got at the very beginning. Supposedly there were some helmets I could get at level 19 (which is what I was working to).

Second character I tried was Smuggler--I enjoyed the smuggler more, his story felt more natural, and I like the cover mechanic. Smuggler is the least popular at the moment, but I like it. Only issue was his ship is too similar to the Ebon Hawk or Millennium Falcon. On this one I got to level 14

My current character I haven't played in a while, is Sith Warrior. I like the combat, but I don't feel like his conversation options are very good. It's basically just be an _______ and talk about how much you're going to kill anyone that crosses you. It comes across as a bit ignorant to me because I can tell from the story when people will betray me or have plans, but there aren't any options for that.

As for the actual game--the graphics aren't bad, it's stylized but ugly. I like the environments and of course the voice acting is awesome. The maps aren't very open, they are like bigger versions of how the KOTOR maps are done, so you won't have empty fields to go through like Galaxies or anything like that. But they can have long distances still. Many quests take you out really far where you just keep going and going (thank god for the instant travel ability). But there is a problem with the way this is--basically there are areas that are like towns or cities, and between them are paths and along the paths are enemies. So you can look out along the road and see all these groups of enemies and creatures, and they're pretty close together. So there isn't any random creatures or enemies around.

As for combat, it's just like KOTOR, except you've got many more abilities and you can't pause gameplay to issue commands (since it's online).

As for things I don't like--there's not enough items to buy. Usually you get weapons and clothing from quests and you can't find anything better to buy before you get something new from a quest yet again, so there's really nothing to spend money on. I ended up with thousands of credits that I never spent.
Space combat is useless. It's on rails like we've seen, but it's very short missions, you just shoot stuff. There's absolutely no reason to do it and there's no multiplayer functionality in it at all, it's all single player. What's worse is that like one of the missions was an escort mission, so you hardly have any control over what's going on and then you fail because the ship your escorting gets shot down and you couldn't stop it.

Another thing that's really good---the music, this is the best score outside of the movies, they did a really great job with the music.

If you have any questions, let me know.

i would agree that smuggler has a great story line. the only other class i played was the imperial agent and the class story was ok. i felt like a james bond wannabe and my companion only wanted to do the whole reckless-gun-for-hire attitude. i'm still not sure which class i plan to start out as. i really do like the cover system though. did anyone who beta'ed have a problem with lag? it made playing the game a little difficult especially in the flashpoints. i would be healing/dps'ing and then i'd freeze up and next thing i know a few enemies are already dead and my teammates have lost/gained health. lol

I'm curious about the crafting system.
Is it barebones like WoW, have X and Y in your inventory and just click "create" forever to make Z.

Or is it a bit more involved like Vanguard (best imho) where you have several steps and you can control a bit more the amount of ingredients you use but it affects quality.

I actually haven't done any crafting. There's different skills you can learn, and different crafting types, I only got as far as learning how to scavenge so I could collect certain materials.

That's one thing I think will be a problem--outside of the content they've created, there's not much to do, since all of the classes are combat based, there's really no world outside of your story.

that's the complaint i've been hearing as well. i's a MMO, that is not really an mmo.
it's more a single player game, that you play with other people, but don't really participate with.

It's seems that way while leveling up but near the end game things open up. Flashpoints, operations...

I kinda enjoyed the space combat. Yes its on rails and repetitive but It was a fun diversion when questing got old. It's also a money sink... You gotta keep your ship upgraded or the missions become very difficult. The xp is equivalent to questing for the same amount of time so it's not a waste.

Armor and appearance may seem limited at first but really opens up after lvl 20. Appearance slots (ala EQ2) would be great but your limited to just your normal gears appearance.

Companions... Don't get to stuck on what one thinks of what your doing... By lvl 40ish you'll have 4 of them. Each with different skills sets and attitudes. The companions, their stories, and your interaction with them add a new layer to the experience that I think makes this game very exciting. The fact that you start to care about how your choices affect your relationship with your companions show just how well the system works. They also allow you to keep your progress steady... Healers get tank companions, tanks get healer companions, ect to start out so no slow grind just cuz you choose a certain class to play.

It's an MMO, questing will drag every once in a while but the quest flow is awesome. You always keep moving forward and rarely ever need to backtrack. Your character quests leads you to each quest hub and the quest XP keeps you leveling nicely. I have never needed to go out and grind trash for XP. Quest objectives are clearly denoted on maps and instructions are very good. No hunting through wiki's and using custom map mods to find your way.

Transport kinda sucks until lvl 25 when you get speeders. The quick travel was Improved last build so it much easier to get around now.

The game is very solo friendly. You can solo the whole game if you choose to. But you'll miss out on Some very cool action in the group zones. 4 man groups make it easier to do things and you can use companions to fill open spots if you can't find some to fill a spot. They don't do as well as a player character but can sometimes get you though a zone, especially if you keep them geared well. Generally you need 4 player characters for flashpoints but once a group I was in was able to finish up the zone when one of the group went link dead, using a companion.

My biggest complaints.
1- the chat system is basic. There is a great lfg tool but no custom chat channels. No server wide chat... It all planet based.
2- no built in voice chat.
3- graphics, looks good but not amazing. The game is designed to be played on older systems so they sacrificed on graphics. But them again how many millions of people play WOW with it's so so graphics.
4- UI... it's basic and lacks customization but I'm sure there will be plenty of mods soon after the game launches.

i never had my character do the crafting, but i always had my companion doing job quests constantly when we weren't questing together. i had a gathering and med/stim making profession and it was convenient for my companion to level us up while i'm in a flashpoint or group quest. sad thing is the companion can only craft to a certain limit, which was ~5minutes even though i had enough materials to take about 3 hours. i also had diplomacy (just b/c i was so curious how it worked). basically would send my companion off to do these diplomatic jobs and they would come back with some sort of gift, points, and companion points if successful. those jobs took between 5-15mins. i found that some jobs will even bring back presents that you can use/give to your companion to increase their favor towards you. the profession skills didn't seem like a necessary part of the game to me, but it was cool to have to pass the time such as between running/traveling.

i was in a group where our tank disconnected too and we finished up The Esseles. i was surprised the tank companion was able to hold their own against mobs and bosses.

i not terribly upset about the voice chat as most people will use ventrilo or skype anyways. graphics are only ok until you get a cutscene where the voice acting is amazing. i don't think i heard 2 voices that were the same in the entire game. i do wish i could customize my UI a bit...although i never messed with it that much except to add an extra bar, but i agree that there will probably be mods that can fix that.

did anyone get a chance to try the pvp? were there different ones people were able to get into or was it just huttball?

Ive never been a pvp fan but I played my consular to level 42 on a pvp server and did some light pvp in game in addition to the war zones. It was ok... The worlds are set up so that only a couple mix good vs evil in questing areas. Balance wasn't bad although as always some classes are stronger in pvp than others but that was something that bio ware seemed to be working on. The war zones were fun but huttball is definitely one you want to play with a group of people you know since it requires some strategy and teamwork.
