I honestly can't decide. I'm not even a huge fan of ET and I love that one to death too. Williams definitely created many of the most iconic music pieces in all of film. A John Williams score is always instantly recognizable. Very few composers are like that.

Oh, and...

John Williams > Danny Elfman > Hans Zimmer

Write that down. :lecture

Superman? I'm surprised, out of all of those Indy is the most listenable by itself.

Tough choice for the first two spots for me. I love both the SW and Supes themes, but if I had to pick one I'd give the edge to the latter, since I played the vinyl disc to death as a kid.

Indy is absolutely iconic too, but it doesn't give me the goosebumps like the other two do, so that's an easy third.

Anyone who votes anything besides SW has obviously never heard it played by a live full symphony and full-on goosebumps it causes.

Or they have a different opinion. :dunno :lol

Admit it Void, Nolan, Bale, and Zimmer could triple team your mother and you would have absolutely zero problems with it.

In fact you would probably have Whedon, Downey Jr, and Silvestri triple team her too, just so you could say for a fact that Nolan's team did it better.

(I only tease, no offense meant!) :1-1:

It's simple, really. Williams writes iconic themes and scores like no other composer in the modern era. He basically scored many of our childhoods.

Jaws
Star Wars
Close Encounters
Superman
The Empire Strikes Back
Raiders of The Lost Ark
E.T.

I mean... come on. Nobody compares. Not even close. And this is just a list of his work through 1982!

And he's not just good at genre films, either. His scores for films like Born on The Fourth of July and JFK are also some of the best of all time.

Impossible to choose between those 3. This is a cruel poll.

For me James Horner took over from Williams as time went on - in terms of their respective primes. This is not me saying Horner's work is better than Williams', but when Williams ran out of his best and his scores were becoming pretty interchangeable, Horner stepped in IMO and was producing his best. Wrath of Khan and Aliens were also amazing scores of his that came during the Williams domination. And now of course Horner's stuff has also become fairly predictable. That time seems to come for all composers after awhile.

I got hard when Whedon and Silvestri teamed up.

and silvestri is a stand in composer at best.

I have! It was freaking awesome. It was actually about 2.5 hour symphony of the music of John Williams, and SW owned the show :lecture
