I love steel batons, they fold up so nicely. Sometimes I have the guys use them instead of the traditional wooden sticks while training, although they hurt more when your fingers get whacked.

I prefer neither of them , to have either of those on your person is a felony in CA.

Haves:

baton
butterfly knives
switch blade knives
brass knucles

needs:

lock pick

I remember back in the mid 80's when California went on this insane witch hunt against martial arts weapons despite the fact that virtually no crimes were committed with them. They made a dramatic arguement that throwing stars could easily pierce a watermelon, while ignoring that ball point pens and paper clips could do it as well.

Incidently, the baseball bat is the most commonly used bludgeoning weapon.

In Texas you must have a baseball mitt and ball if your going to be driving with a baseball bat. Otherwise it is considered a concealed weapon.

To have neither of them on your person is to be out of uniform. Of course, I've never seen either stop a bullet.

Back in the 80's as part of the ninja craze I would circumvent that law by making ninja stars out of electrical tape and nails, they worked pretty well (on wood or trees btw). My friend took the idea and made a Tonfa with electrical tape and children's cylindrical wooden building blocks. :lol
I still have no idea why you can't buy them in Cali.
Where I live now they're legal to purchase and I have no interest in waisting money on them.
