I'm happy to admit that I've never seen the original (it's one of those films I always plan to get around to but never do) but I saw the preview for the remake before Planet of the Apes and it's something I'm keem on watching when released

To mike, it's a classic film by one of the great directors of the 60s/70s in Sam Peckinpah. Very disturbing in its original incarnation, though I imagine it would have less impact in the post-Hostel world we live in. I think remaking classic films is just lame as ____. It doesn't take anything away from the originals, so I guess I shouldn't care, but just pointless from a creative standpoint.

Still waiting for those Citizen Kane and It's a Wonderful Life remakes.

Yeah, I'm aware of the history of the film. Like I said it's one of those ones that I've nevr got around to watching, sadly.

I agree that there are too many remakes going on and I'm dying for more original content to come out of Hollywood, but based on the trailer I saw, I'll be seeing this flick (and actually watching the original!)

The original is one of Peckinpah's best movies. And Hoffman was perfectly cast. I guess a remake brings this to a whole new audience, but I probably won't see it. Besides, the trailer pretty much shows you the whole movie. :lol

That seems to be happening more and more these days and it is annoying.

I love Straw Dogs, and i was really annoyed when i heard they were remaking it. As others have pointed out, its just pointless. I really dont get the reasoning of it, other than money making of course. Which goes to show these film makers arent interested in telling good stories and making original, interesting movies, they're just interested in making cash. Such a shame.

I don't see how the original is in any need of being remade. With all the remakes why not just hype up a theatrical re-release. Wouldn't that make about as much money?

Susan George.

That's all that needs to be said. The original (with the overall direction and Hoffman's great casting/performance) is phenomenal. But really, Susan George-- That's it. End. Period. Next?

Agreed on Susan George. Also liked her performance in "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry."

By the way, some parts in Straw Dogs not nearly as horrifying as the Dustin Hoffman dental scene in "Marathon Man." :( :monkey4
