My point is while this woman did a stupid thing, it is hardly a laughing matter. I don't get how some of you can be so kind in Shelly's thread yet so callous here. I think we all understand addiction to a certain degree through our hobby. Sympathy and compassion toward a fellow human who is obviously suffering will take you far.

Not sure how a more violent word would serve to more accurately characterize the profound disrespect exhibited by the people in your example. I'm also not sure what constitutes a violent adjective.

Sympathy and compassion are earned. Promiscuous use of them makes them meaningless. It transforms them from genuine emotions into shallow imitations. There are people who suffer through no fault of their own, or through the actions of others, but those who suffer on account of their own failure to think or judge deserve exactly what they get.

Just out of curiosity, do you think the 'stupid' people in your example deserve sympathy or compassion?

I watched one last year about meth with an interview with some guy. He was blind and only had one arm. He was cooking meth in his kitchen and blew his kitchen and himself up. The police said the explosion was the same degree as a hand grenade.
