Not when they are stupid comments.:monkey1

Eh agreed. But everyone's entitled to their opinion no matter how unfounded/harsh it maybe.

Having worked in product development with sculptors, I would've never referred to the sculptor of this commiquette as a "rookie". First of all a certain level of respect is needed and expected. Secondly...if a rookie sculpted this he has a hell of a lot of potential.

Agreed. Alot of harsh comments from people who wouldn't have the talent themselves to produce this.

...all I said was she had a man butt.

I couldn't sculpt poop.

That wasn't too harsh. You pointed out a specific part of the sculpt and said what you didn't like about it by giving a comparison. And you didn't say it looks "bad", "like crud", or that the sculpt was "made by a rookie".

I'm not one to say people shouldn't complain or voice their opinion, especially on this forum. That's part of what the forums are about: for us collector's to discuss what we love about these pieces or what we think could have been better (amongst other topics). What sometimes gets to me is when someone comes along and gives a negative opinion without explaining why they feel that way. Especially when the comment is short and implies a fact is being stated rather than an opinion.

( ^ and that's my opinion :) )

Could you do better? If so please post some pics of your work so we can accurately gauge your credibility when it comes to critiquing the works of people who sculpt professionally. ;)

Same here.

That argument doesnt really hold up. While this sculpt isnt terrible, its definately not the best sculp Sideshow has put out...I think we can all agree on that.

Now, as for the "could you do better" comments...that makes no sense. I can't build a car, but I expect quality in what I buy. I couldnt direct or write a movie, but I can tell you when a movie sucks. I'm not a woman, but I sure as hell know when one is hot or not.

In some cases, art is art, and it can be exceptional even if the general masses disagree. However, when you are producing "art" for the sole purpose of making a sale...it IS the target audiance and not the artist that defines what is or isnt good.

No...we cannot all agree on that. Neither one of us speaks, or should speak, for the entire forum. I know we all like to believe that the opinios expressed on our beloved forum somehow represents the thoughts of all collectors. But that's just not the case. Some folks love this sculpt, some folks simply like the sculpt, some hate it. I'm not going to say this is my favorite piece of all time, but so far what I have seen would not preclude me from purchasing this piece.

IMHO Hulksmashed there is difference between making your a comment on a sculpt vs. making a comment regarding someone's profession. Let's be honest here....many of the posts critiquing a piece are made by folks who quite frankly do not possess an ounce of sculpting talent. I include myself in that category of those not possessing any sculpting talent. Look, it's fun to share our opinions on a piece...good and bad. IMHO most of the time the comments posted are not made to belittle the sculptor, but to point out some concerns regarding the piece.

Maybe it's just me, but the comment made about this being a "rookie sculpt" is not simply a criticism of the piece it boarders on being a cheap shot to the sculptor. You generally do not refer to someone's work as being rookie in constructive, positive manner. Imagine if your boss conducted your annual performance review and told you that you needed to work on improving the quality of your weekly reports and gave you specific examples. Now imagine that same situation, and your boss calls you in and tells you your work is "rookie like". Maybe it's just me, but the latter comment would likely damage my relationship with my manager. I would interpret the rookie comment as an attack on my professionalism.

I do not believe comments regarding the "jaw being to square" or " I don't like the hair" are attacking the sculptor's professionalism. I do not believe that the intent of those comments is not to cast dispersions on the sculptor.

But when you question the professionalism of someone's work, I believe you open the door for questions regarding your credibility to make such an assessment. I will be the first to admit, it's sometimes difficult to assess the "tone" of a post. If that was not the intent of the comment, then I apologize.

All i know...is that i know what i like, and i don't like this!!!

i shouldn't have to explain why i don't like it, i just dont!

Gotta be honest...I'm too worried about how realistic the fist looks.

We left "realism" behind a long time ago after it was decided to make a statue of someone who can turn invisible and make force fields. :lol

WRONG!...just because these are fictitious fantasy-based characters with super-powers shouldn't mean incorrect anatomy is just okeedokee and shouldn't matter.

Unless it's the Liefeld Statue Line or course

Well that goes without saying.....

:lol

I ordered it, and was able to look past the strange hair and dead/blank stare (the 2 flaws that I see), but the fist issue may be the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I may cancel.

easy dude. all i said was "rookie sculpt." period. pretty plain, pretty simple. if you're reading into the comment more than that, well i'm sorry.

shall i digress, and state that this sculpt is sub-par instead? it is, so i can do that if you prefer. my comment, obviously, intended no attack on the sculptor as a professional as there is no subjective reference in it at all, it is merely a summarized objective comment on the subject's result.

hey, we all have good days and bad days, good results and bad results. i don't know if this piece would be on the front page of these artists portfolios. who knows, maybe this was an up-and-comers work, if so, it would be a "rookie sculpt.", and i'm certain they will sculpt better down the road. it is what it is, no need for sugar. just saying ... there i've written way too much here.

There's no problem with that. Nobody HAS to explain why they like or dislike a piece. The "rookie sculptor" comment someone else made wasn't even a like/dislike comment; it was just a cheap-shot at the sculptor which is what bothered me.

Then again, I will admit I am also guilty at taking shots at artists...but that's always in more serious cases..:cough:cough LIEFIELD cough. :D

As I mentioned in my last post, it's sometimes difficult to interpret the correct tone of a post. I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Ex. Sold out....now i want one! (jk)

:lol:lol:lol when the ES is posted at 150 everyone will be hopping on the WL.
for me though i'm thinking i'll be staying away from this Woman Of Marvel line for the time being. even if the AH line stalls, we still have the Brooks and other great lines such as the Moore and Aspen beauties:yess:

This statue is generating strong opinions. Personally, if its good it gets praised and if its bad the company, artist and sculptor are subject to critiscism. Art is driven by patrons and those willing to pay. Being paid to create art doesnt automatically mean your good at it. People are not entitled to praise for substandard work and the right of critiscism belongs to customers regardless of their talent. I am surprised how quickly people jump to the rescue of Sideshow. This company makes a fortune and charges more than enough that their clients are entitled to strong opinions. The artist should be better, the sculpt should have been better and the only success is the price point which is a business decision.
