I can't agree with JAWS on Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)... to me, it is as unwatchable as WW84.

But I would watch a mud fight in the rain between Robbie and Gadot.

Yeah… What can I say? I like BoP.

It dumb and all but I liked everyone except Rosie Perez (I’ve never liked her)

I liked Hunters a lot and thought the jokes surrounding her were all solid. Black Canary looked good throwing those kicks and the violence was god and Brutal.

I also thought Ewen was the best villain of the three films and found him to be funny.

I agree with Jye HQ is at her best when in love with the Joker and in full on crazy mode.. But like I said before she has been without the joker before and shows her good side then. So I thought this film did a good job with that. Plus for an all female lead film it did not get preachy even though all of the men in the film were bad :lol

But again it’s not the type of film I am going to suggest people watch unless you happen to like the other two films with HQ in it.

And if you find it unwatchable…. Well I am not going to try and argue against that.

and yes…. Bring on the mud!!!

Harley Quinn has now failed twice without being able to leech off the Joker's popularity. Good, she's an overrated sidekick. Nothing more.
To be honest, the only version of her that works imo is the BTAS/Joker sidekick role. I forgot the last comic where Joker and Harley were a team. I feel as if they have been split up for like 10+ years.

Like, I don't mind seeing her in other situations/stories/outfits/meeting new characters, but at the end of the day, she will always be Joker's sidekick, just as Robin will always be Batman's.

Joker had female sidekicks going back to Cesar Romero. However, Harley started out as Joker's muscle, which was interesting for Joker to have a female sidekick that could actually fight and use her acrobatic skills against Batman. They repeated that formula with Lex Luthor in the Superman animated series, by giving Lex Luthor, Mercy, the female bodyguard, and it worked. In the the crossover episode, both Harley and Mercy fought while Lex and Joker discussed business. It was a great use of both female bodyguards. Then, they decided to developed Harley, something they never did with Mercy. They made Harley a woman in an abusive relationship, and while the idea that Joker manipulated and used her to escape from Arkham was in character for Joker, they took it too far by making them a couple and later Joker an abusive "boyfriend." It diminished Joker as a character and as a villain to be involved in such pedestrian situations and later relationship problems. Harley had a good arc when she left him, but it was all at the Joker's expensed, which is why I don't consider Mark Hamill's Joker as good as Ledger, Nicholson or Phoenix. I think recent comics tried to retcon the Joker/Harley relationship by showing that Harley Queen wasn't Joker's first Harley Queen, and that he had created other Harley's in the past, but to me it's pointless. I hate the whole Joker/Harley thing and even more the people that write and create all this fan fiction with Ledger and Britney Murphy as Harley. Gross. I've even seen people asking for Harley to be in a Phoenix Joker sequel. That would be awful.

Just a random thought - I can't see how she could have worked next to Ledger or Phoenix Jokers.

She kind of worked next to Leto but their story needed to be fleshed out more.

She could work as a junkie type chick or a criminal like Bonnie and Clyde or the couple that robs the diner in Pulp Fiction, but in those examples, Joker and Harley would need to have somewhat of a functional relationship. I just think Joker is too messed up to have any kind of genuine relationship other than his infatuation with Batman.

The recent "Three Jokers" story showed Joker fantasizing about having a wife and son living in a normal neighborhood, but his relationship with them was really disturbing, which is why the idea of him in a legitimate relationship with anyone is absurd. And Joker using Harley, that gimmick ran its course.

Any time they show Harley fighting or even beating up Joker it only diminishes Joker to enhanced a sidekick with a small, but loyal fanbase. Harley appeals to a lot of male simps that like the female cosplayers online. It's pathetic. That, and females romanticizing a toxic relationship are a big turn off for me and the whole Harley character and fanbase.

What was up with all the birds in this film? Was it supposed to be symbolic?

I could see her with the Ledgoker, as a full on psychopathically dangerous partner.

But not at all with the downbeat, loser Phoenoker. She would've upstaged that sad sack. He would've bored her to tears.

The Joker's like Darth Vader, he shouldn't have a sidekick whether their relationship is abusive or not. (I think they already tried that with Dr. Aphra but I digress).

Harley is interesting from an aesthetic standpoint -- female scary clown -- sure. But she doesn't exist without the Joker and as such kind of dilutes both characters, IMO. As I've mentioned before, I think she's overpowered in the DCEU, but since been informed she's enhanced in the comics, which doesn't help her case either given she lacks originality.
