I wouldn't say it looks terrible, but it doesn't look good that's for sure.

On the Statue Forums someone said that the facial sculpt resembles the old Thunderbirds puppets. I'd have to agree. The original solicits facial sculpt had a more "Asian" vibe to it but at least it was humanisitic. This one doesn't really look all that human at all. The costuming doesn't impress and I have always hated the stance but that's neither here nor there. As a huge Superman fan, I'm glad I passed on it. The only "good" thing is because its Superman, he will most likely be redone.

I would never do something as to just bag on big boy blue, but this DCD 1:4 is not to my liking at all....At least make it APPEAR like on of the incarnations of supes, not just some random head sculpt. Oh well, I can wait for another one...

That is downright bad. The sculpt aside for a moment, we can truly see just how important the fabricators are to the process. :sick

No no. Those pics are of the prototype! I want to see pictures of the person's statue that they got in..that was posted on the statueforum.

Bah!

I give up.

*hits his head into the wall a few times*

*gets knocked out cold*

The pictures there are very unflattering. They are all taken with a flash and all the facial details are washed out. I agree with Dave that people are being a little too hard on it. I saw it in person and thought it wasn't that bad but not near the quality of SS or worth the $300 price tag. I thought the face sculpt was a decent generic version of Supes. My complaints were the giraffe neck, neckline of the suit and the paint colors (flesh tones and the hair) looked off. The arms on the suit are pulled down too far on the wrists and could be pulled up to help adjust the neck line a little bit, that does draw attention to the long neck. People need to either wait for better pictures to be posted or see it in person before ripping it to pieces.

Yeah those two pictures do it no justice whatsoever.

And thanks!

LOTRfan, you disappoint me sir, I thought you had my back! I thought you cared, but I was wrong! All you care about is yourself! I thought we had something. A connection that two collectors shared. A connection that couldn't be broken. Well you sir, have broken that connection! Darn you! DARN YOU!!!

*shakes fist*

I am so weird.

I think its just OK.
the 2 things that bother me the most are the neck-line and where the cape attaches. Those 2 things in particular look very sub-par.

His calves look almost as big as his thighs too, but maybe thats the angle. This could be also cause of the thick material used on the boots maybe? or are they sculpted?

Im sure the guys at SS are giggling a little watching the other companies go thru the tough R&D of pulling off this new type of fig.
Thickness of materials used have to be taken into account during the sculpt to ensure proportion.

Mine will be here on the 26th. I'll post some pics next to Spidey PF to compare. I'll to keep it as far away from Doom or Lurtz so I wont be too disappointed.

I've seen this statue on display at my local comic shop. Really, this piece didn't impress me at all...and I call myself a fan of Superman. Like a previous post said, this statue looked very generic and the neck was kinda long on the piece. The fabric touches to the figure were alright but definately not worth the amount of money they were looking for the piece....

Ditto.... It just doesn't look professional at all, at least IMO. It doesn't seem to really capture the essence of Superman like a SSC PF no doubt would. It's just a really strange looking Supes standing awkwardly on a building and gesturing like an elderly old man. :rotfl

Can't say I would get it myself and I am a HUGE Supeman fan. I'm sure it would still look decent in someone's collection... but not for me. It's not a horrible piece by any standard, but just doesn't feel like Supes to me.

Yeah he looks liek a plastic surgery disaster. I think it's hard to nail Supermans likeness, more so than any superheros at all. It's hard to walk the line with him. I think a better idea would be just choose a particular artists version. Clearly Ross' would be ideal, I also think Darwyn Cooks "Classic" version works or (even though I'm not a fan) Jim Lee. It's just a "generic" Superman is hard to do. I hope we get something better one day (Chris Reeves!!!!)

You know what he looks a lot more impressive in person. I think the sculpt is well done, it's just the paint apps he suffers from. As for his threads, I don't mind them, they are actually well done. Could they be better, yes, but frankly he's not as bad as people make him out.

I like him. He's no Sideshow PF, but he's still a lot better looking piece than what a lot of other companies have put out.

This may be a stupid question, but how hard would it be to put a Custom Christopher Reeves head on that?

That might look okay? How hard would it be???

I agree. As for putting a custom reeve headsculpt on, I would say it would be pretty difficult. You might have to forceably remove the original.

I never liked this statue...Saw it at my LCS and it looks cheap...collar is to wide too.
