Exactly! I love the Williams theme, it's burnt into my soul but we should have learnt from Nolan's trilogy, Snyder's trilogy and even The Batman that new scores can be created for different versions of the character and they can be amazing.
Can you imagine The Dark Knight with Elfman's score? Or hell, Batman 1989 with the 66 theme.
Definitely agree.

For me, the difference with William's Superman theme compared to some of the other examples is that it's more tied to Reeve (at least in my mind), than the character of Superman. Having Williams' Superman theme in any other movie makes me think of it as a continuation of Reeve's portrayal as Superman (along with the supporting characters) similar to that of Superman Returns vs that of say James Bond where its a continuation of the character

Perhaps if SR had been the first to set the precedent of using the JW theme yet having nothing to do with Reeve's movies more people would have simply taken the JW theme as being Superman's music and thus expected it in every Superman movie like the Bond theme must be in every Bond movie.

Instead, as we know, Superman Returns was actually intended as a continuation of sorts of Reeve's particular Superman universe and thus was of course going to use the JW theme. And it was a pretty good score incidentally.

And yet every Bond movie has its own theme song and score. As far as I can remember the main theme is only used in the opening sequence, with the gun barrel thing.
It was used heavily throughout most of the Bond movies bar the Craig ones. It was mainly used at the end for those. I think a big difference with Bond it was already on its 4th interpretation by the 80s and generally they hadn't been creating new scores for different versions at that point.

Great score.

Gosh i remember being bored to tears with Superman returns. He didnt throw a single punch that entire film and got his ass kicked by Kumar.
MOS wasn't a good movie to me but the fights were out of this world and showed the strength of Superman I hope Gunn shows that off here.

Yeah I was really charmed by SR at the time, but find it sluggish and hard to sit through now.

I do remember that nervous excitement I felt when watching the SR teaser for the first time though. Doubt I'll feel that with this new teaser, now that I'm older and dead inside. Lol

Especially since in the Matrix WB gave us our first glimpse of what a flying superman would be like with modern CGI but with Neo all in black…and SR would be the culmination of that….and then we got….

Superman vs Icicle

I remember opening night IMAX having to take the 3-D glasses on and off with the flashing 3-D glasses on the top right corner of the screen!

That plane sequence in 3-D on IMAX was freaking glorious everyone was gobsmacked.

That is literally the only good thing about that movie.

Superman the peeping tom stalker might’ve been a metaphor for Bryan Singer and his pool friends.

I definitely see what you're saying and maybe that would've been the case, but I'm still unsure that it would have the same effect as Bond or the others.
There's also the fact that every version of tv/cartoon/movie Superman has it's own theme before and after Reeve. To me, it just doesn't make sense to continue that theme to other versions for Superman, Batman, etc. Sort of along the same lines of what @T8OO was saying, Elfman's Batman theme wouldn't work with Nolan's Trilogy and I think the same would be with any Superman movie wouldn't work with a universal Superman theme if it's trying to NOT be the Reeve movies.
In my opinion, we saw how it doesn't work when it's not a continuation of the same, previous version of the character in Whedon's Justice League where Elfman inserted both the Reeve theme and his Batman theme into that movie. It just didn't work.
