You know, I have a feeling this will do well.
There's been a cultural and political shift taking place for the last couple of years. People are swinging back to more conservative values, and I have the feeling this very positive, family friendly Superman will resonate quite well in this burgeoning zeitgeist.
It's a blasphemous comparison, but think Star Wars' unapologetically fun and simple story taking the world by storm after almost a decade of very bleak and cynical cinema.
I love both. Give more The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Network, Dog Day Afternoon; but also give me more Jaws, Star Wars and Rocky.
You may be right I just don't see the modern GA not laughing at the underwear.

Whether its this movie or not, I agree with your social assessment.

They said that too about 1978 Superman.

And plenty of people did. But it had its charms... and obviously a generation raised on it makes it even more nostalgic.
At the time all they knew was underwear on the outside. Since then we've had 40 years of it being on the inside.
I was raised on it, it was fine at the time. Looks cheesy now.

Bro serious question are you gonna give this movie a chance? Like know you are a HARDCORE Snyder fan but are you hoping for the best with this movie or you still have to be won over ?

I will watch it but I'm not paying money to see it. And that isn't even as a Snyder fan. That's based solely on Gunn's previous work.
In an ideal world, it will be the best Superman movie ever made but it's got a director I don't like and the suit is terrible. The chances of this winning me over are very slim.

Sigh … ok. I get you. I’m not a Superman fan but I’m just interested in the film. It could go either way.

As a dc fan I hope for the best

No, it always looked cheesy from the 60's on. Look at Batman (West).

And didn't Routh's Superman wear panties in 2006?
My point is the GA were very accepting of it. Imo I don't think they will now.

Yes, I was wrong, Routh had it also just more streamlined. That being said Superman Returns is hardly the people's champion.

I've been a fan of live-action Superman for 44 years now. This is the first one I have zero care for. That is based on being soured by what happened to Snyder's Superman and what I'm seeing from this one.

I do think Rachel Brosnahan is perfect for Lois.

I don't know, honestly, the GA doesn't care too much about Superman or what he's wearing. Guys who collect dolls do. That's a much smaller, loyal following and I agree they may not like going back.

For most people aware of Superman (and that's everyone) but who don't give him much thought in their daily life (that almost everyone), I think they'll remember the bright red panties and be fine with it.

Whether this actor can wear them or not has yet to be seen.

Hard to go from selling them Reeve and Cavill to this guy in this TV suit. I say this as someone who’s just about completely indifferent to the character one way or another.

Yea i understand

They're replacing DC suits with Marvel motorcycle jackets.

Great poster it succeeded at making the worst looking cinematic superman costume ever look passable.

They better change their studio logo from Superman to Batman though because he outsells Superman 1 million to 1.

That’s basically what I came on here to say, as well. It’s a bad looking suit, but it does look better when it’s at least form fitting. I hope it actually looks that way in the movie and not just on the poster. In the behind the scenes photos and even the first official photo, the suit looked like a padded, shapeless mess.
