I mean that literal D-head Guy Gardner is pretty comic accurate (both visually and in personality).
Just needs Batman to come in and knock him on his ass.
But while a love the charming silver-age Krypto stuff, I agree filing the Superman movie with a version of the joke Justice League, generic suited corporate product, late 80s early 90s cynical parody of themselves, is an odd way to launch a franchise.

I don’t know how anyone would know this, but I think the internet rumor is that they start out working for Maxwell Lord, and that these are the suits that they have while they’re working for him.

I’d be okay with that if that were true, but again, I don’t know how anyone would really know that at this point. There was also a lot of people online swearing up and down that Superman’s suit would be fixed in post, and it looks exactly the same to me.

I'm excited for this purely because it looks like it takes place in an actual comic book universe with all kinds of fantastical stuff happening everywhere instead of the "grounded in reality" trend WB's been stuck on for the past decade.

I feel like the next six months are going to be exhausting. So many people desperately hoping the movie bombs so they can gloat. Batman and Spider-Man have never been this divisive have they? So why Superman?

I love Henry as Superman but that won't stop me hoping this movie is a huge success. Superman's big screen future really depends on it.

Probably because they didn't like how Cavill was seemingly back as Superman and then was suddenly not back at all when Gunn joined WB. I think where Spiderman is concerned, people were upset when they rebooted and Garfield didn't get to finish in a third movie. That's why No Way Home was so well received. If Cavill had been given a decent farewell to the role, there wouldn't be so much backlash for this Superman film.

Fans seem to prefer that though. I never watched Superman and Lois, other than a few clips here and there, however it seemed to go down well with a lot of Superman fans. People like the story taking place in our world, rather than the overtop nature of comic book universes.

The biggest difference is that Batman and Spider-Man has had multiple actors and much more exposure across movies, tv show and games in the last 10 years.

Superman has barely gotten anything. A lot of people have grew up with Snyder's version being their one and only Superman. It's more so a problem of DC and their poor handling of Superman than anything.

We've had like 5-6 Batman actors, 3 Spider-Man actors and game series for both that have blown up. The Arkham series, Sony's Spider-Man games, Miles Moralas getting big through Into the Spider-Verse. Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale and Pattingson. Not to mention Kevin Conroy being the definitive voice of Batman across media for many. The list goes on for those two.

Superman on the other hand? He's gotten nothing but Snyder's films.

Same. I just need Superman to succeed. I'm tired of the what could have been since the ideas for the Superman Returns sequel as well as what Henry wanted/hoped for in a Man of Steel sequel.

I think you’re right that a lot of the backlash largely is from this.

While I don’t advocate for rooting for the new movie to fail, I would definitely count myself in the group that felt like Cavill got a raw deal.

There are probably also some people who are just locked into the Snyder version of the DC Universe and aren’t interested in starting completely over with someone else’s take.

But yeah, I think for a lot of people what happened with Henry Cavill just did not sit well.

I’m not sure if Gunn can win any of that good will back with the Cavill fans or if he’s even interested in trying.

Personally, I’m still willing to give the new DC Universe a look. I like “Creature Commandos,” so far. I’m less certain how “Superman” will turn out, but to me, it does no one any good if the new Superman movie crashes and burns. I’m not going to offer up blind support of it either, but l’ll try to go into it with an open mind.

There's been plenty of Superman content over the years. Firstly, Lois and Clark was huge in the 90's. Then Smallville ran for 10 seasons and Superman and Lois just finished its 4 year run.

I feel the problem is that the reboot is too soon. They aren't just rebooting Superman, but the entire DCU that they had created. Movies in that universe were still being released even with the knowledge that it was being rebooted in 2025.

A 5 year break would have enabled people to move on from the DCU into an entire new version. I also think if Gunn decides to recast others from DCU into these films, it will be a mistake. We don't need Samoa showing up playing Lobo etc

I've got zero skin the the game as I don't really care about any superhero's and therefore judge each film on it's own merit.

Didn't like any of Snyder's versions - although, yes, Cavill did suit the part perfectly.

Liked the Reeve 1 & 2 films, and haven't invested in any of the tv series.

So my judgement comes purely from the trailer, and to me it looks like generic ass.

There's no wonderment, and I'm not seeing this "hope" that people are banging on about.

Nothing new or interesting. Nothing that connects me to the character or their plight. Zip. Just the usual McDonalds fodder.

Another of the risk-adverse studio formula, instead of a true fresh start/reinvention.

Having said that, just from the trailer I can tell the new guy will be a better Superman and Clark Kent than Henry Cavill. I hope he doesn't get raped by guards.

This guy doesn’t give the impression of an other worldly alien being that Cavill was able to pull off previously.

Honestly, Cavill was the best part of that universe and I’m someone who was eagerly awaiting for that universe to wrap up, it extended its stay.

I can understand people enjoying the tone they’re seeing with this, but the overall quality acceptance? That I don’t understand.

I really enjoyed GOTG3 and if Gunn can make me care about a CGI racoon for 2 hours, I trust that he can make me root for this Superman...and Krypto.

I don’t believe there to be a world where a new Superman film doesn’t garner attention, that’s not a comment on its quality though.

I just don’t see a quality film from what I’ve seen, getting some aspects more comic accurate than previous attempts doesn’t put it head and shoulders above.

I don’t want it to do bad just because,
but I don’t want it to do well if it’s mediocre,
that tells studios the content is great, don’t change a thing.
