Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

hey thanks for the kind words ,i too think this is a fantasic figure for the price point ,and just wanted to see if the body could be improved on to the point that i wouldnt need a replacement body or new boots ,got to do something about those soles, and im glad some of you guys agree ,that while hes not perfect ,hes far from the train wreck he could have been ,cough proto pictures skinny,:) the bootsi got from a great guy called kris meadows back around 1997 ,the boots were just socks and made of a strech vinyl or vinyl spandex ,they were nice but kinda sock looking i think it bothered him too as he used to hide the feet as you can see in the link ,https://www.supermania78.com/2010/12/...it-figure.html ,as for the boots all i did was put inner soles to give a more boot like shape a rubber outer sole glued on to keep that shape ,there not unlike the mattel boots which i like a lot better now they are more filled out ,i look forward to seeing some repainted heads in this thread soon :) cheers chris

Hey Libby, could you explain the boots mod again? I'm not understanding the whole innersole thing? Are you talking about innersoles you usefkr your shoes? Those are a bit think. I don't want to have to swap bodies either and seeing how Bice yours has come out, I'd really appreciate if you could explain the boot mod a bit more

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

hi you got it right first time ,the inner sole refers to my custom not the mattel ,all i did with the mattel body was fill out waist hips and crotch ,then put on a old captain action jump suit ,all i had to hand ,cut out neck and arms ,kinnda like a tank top with legs ,then the mattel suit and boots ,the extra thickness of the undersuit really makes a big difference to the look and fit of the suit ,but it really improves the boots ,its just those dam soles that need fixing:rotfl if i can get a other figure id like to try plasti dip painted on the boots to give them a rubber look maybee:wink1:, just asking but how do you guys rate mattels superman ,not perfect ,i know but fixable id say ,against hot toys first version superman returns which imo it has a lot in common ,head sculpt needs paint job ,suits fantastic but returns trunks a bit iffy ,bodys needs padding, packageing ,any thoughts ,any repaints cheers chris

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

Can I ask why people keep complaining about the boots? For example the length they are not too tall they are accurate the film films height even in the photos that I have seen on this board and others that get linked to for reference show the boots are the right height where the points end just below the knees, so what is the problem?

Also for those that are getting/gotten a second one and modding the head to be Clark how are you going to do the glasses as that is where i always get stuck when it comes to doing custom Clark figures.

Btw back on Page 62 I believe it was Mr Fusion's photo, your one with the lighting the red's and the blue reminded me of how his suit looked in Superman four that is not a knock by the way. The whole figure looks good so far

in my case its not the boots ,i think they did a pretty good job on the whole ,i wish they had used a vinyl fabric to look more boot like than the satin fabric they used ,but filled out i think they are pretty good and as you say screen accurate ,its the soles that bother me too thick and unnaturel looking

if mattel had made the boots on the right in the fabric on the left ,with a more natural sole like the ones on the left , they would have been perfect in my opinion :)

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

So they did cop out and use their cheap satin on part of him after all, I was wondering if they would. I wasn't sure cause in soem of the pics they looked liked they were vinyl in that sense i agree with you bout the your photo libby their boots but from the vinyl like material on your custom(looks great btw) the soles are a bit thick aren't they? Overall though he looks pretty damn good I think and considering how long people have waited for a CR supes I am glad we got one especially for those who can't afford Hot Toys.

Now compare it to their SR superman(not the epic powers one) and then see what you think, I do agree the paint does seem too leave alot to be desired going by the photos but once I can get one for a fair price and have him in hand and can give a better opinion of the figure

Talk about irony...didn't get these guys for Christmas so I was waiting for my scholarship check to buy these which came today but Matty's already pulled them...would be awesome if they come back around when lex comes out but I doubt it :(

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

Very Nice! That's using the Wolverine body and Erick's face, right? Are the boots custom made for it?

Gipetto - sorry you missed it, but I am sure they will offer it again in the future.

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

Nailing Reeve's physique will be just as crucial as nailing his likeness for the HT team.
All these wonderful customized figures are testament to the physique being immensely important to getting the right vibe.

Check out the link to his thread for the figure. He used the HT Predators Royce body for it. He said he also custom-made the boots too. Awesome! I LOVE IT! One of the BEST custom Christopher Reeve Superman figure I have EVER seen! :wave

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

Oh...okay. I didn't know they were the same bodies. So either one is a great choice for a Christopher Reeve Superman figure then? Cool. :wave
