I have started looking at this a lot. I think its very nice and a high end star wars collectible.

But right at the point where i convince myself i want it, i ask myself......

How cool is 3PO really? I mean, Han always wanted to shut his gibberish off and R2 made all of the cool film contributions.

As a visual piece and an old trilogy fan, i think it looks sweet.

Im kind of at the point where i dont really want to buy any more 1/6 .

Robocop is on the radar....i broke and bought Brother 'Jack'......

Now i keep looking at this everyday.

I think, like many, the abundant stock coupled with current retail dissuades.

If there were 3 left for $350 i would get it.

But with 100 left for $350,..i want to at least hit the $270 sweet spot (free shipping).

But again...how cool is 3PO really? He would instantly be the biggest wuss in the lineup.

Wait,...scratch that..... I have 'Beat It' Michael Jackson...

Just pulled the trigger from midtown comics. To me it's essential to have the droids, whenever they get up to making R2. Grievous can wait.

I get he isn't the coolest, but he's got a couple thing going for him.

As a character, he'll go with almost anyone or anything ROTS up. He's been in all the movies, cartoons etc...He'll be the only 1 you need. You don't have to worry about Farmboy C-3PO, Yavin C-3PO, X-Wing C-3PO, Hoth C-3PO, Bespin C-3PO (get my drift) This is the ONLY C-3PO you need to get ever. 1 and done.

As a figure, it's heavy, metal, and the pistons are genius. So is it pricey? Sure, but you'll never have to worry about a better one being made like HT is doing with the SS lineup (insert only 1 figure released joke here) but you get the point.

^^^ all good points, all true.

And if you were to flash back to 1977 right now, you'd see just how damn popular R2-D2 and C-3PO really were. They were Star Wars right along with Vader. They made the cover of just about every magazine. They were the tech age's new Abbot and Costello. Their magic was eventually replaced by Yoda. And his magic was attempted to be replaced by the Ewoks, but that never really took off.

None of these excellent points have anything to do with how collectible something is with respect to any particular collector. ;)

I'm of both minds. Which is why I haven't pulled the trigger. It's also more than I've spent on most of my other 1/6 stuff. The only 1/6 figures I've spent more than $300 (shipping/tax included) are Avengers Hawkeye and Diecast War Machine. In fact the only things in my collection that have cost more than that are statues and my 3 fewture getter g ex gokins. I've been eyeing the DX Mazinger from Bandai for a long time and that is $400-450 and I can't bring myself to pull the trigger. While Star Wars means more to me as a property than Mazinger, that Mazinger is a much cooler figure itself than c-3PO. 5the thought has crossed my mind a few times when I've almost bought 3PO from Hlj is "c-3po is a dope... He is nostalgic and the representation is PERFECT, as its namesake states, but he's still a dopey character and i don't know that I can spend $300 on a dope. I can spend $200 on a dope easy, $250 maybe.

C-3PO and R2-D2 are the very heart of Star Wars.
:exactly: - well said.

Preference for one character over another is one thing; some folks just aren't into certain ones, regardless of their contribution / place in pop culture - fair enough.

However, I find some of the comments posted, show just how unappreciated absolute ICONS like the droids are among certain generational circles, which is sad.

What generation? Anyone who can afford 1/6 grew up with the original trilogy. It's not like there are 15 year old kids buying these things.

Love the droids. We just don't know if we love them $300 much, which is ALOT of love. As a kid I connected to a lot of the characters in star wars. The droids are there for comic relief and as a sounding board for the other characters. There wasn't a lot to connect to on an emotional level with the droids, other than just enjoying them.

To say that we don't necessarily want to spend $300 on this figure is in no way unappreciative of the droids icon status. Some Star Wars fans are obsessed with Boba, other's identify more with Han, other's with Luke, and I guess, some identify with mostly the droids. None are any better or worse, more or less appreciative of the trilogy. I think you're first and second sentences are somewhat mutually exclusive.

You're reading too much between the lines and not enough of the lines themselves. ;) Everything has a price and the comments in here express people's position based on the value they place on this particular collectible, not necessarily their appreciation for the characters. And even what I said, being able to skip high end droids, doesn't mean I don't appreciate the characters. I have multiple of each in lower end formats. I don't value the Tama version over $200. $220 with shipping to be fair. I might be willing to pay more if I had more money to throw around right now, but I'd still feel I was overpaying.

Totally agree. I know the droids are iconic and were on every plastic cup and representative of the heart of the concept.
Its just the price as it is today with the fact iconic doesnt necessarily translate to cool.
That said,..if they release an R2 it would be "cooler" to have the pair.

3P0 is awesome because he's not cool. So that kinda makes him cool..? Haha, I have no idea, "cool" can mean anything. Boba Fett was/is supposed to be the cool one, but he's a completely empty, throwaway character. The original 3P0 has charm, humour and real character, despite not being "cool". I can totally see not wanting to pay 300 for a prissy robot, thought. I would if I could afford it, but that's me. More people these days would spend that 300 on someone "cool" like Grievous, even though he's a soulless , forgettable character.

For me,..anything original trilogy is cooler than the sorry prequels.

The fact that he is iconic and is one the the most worldly droids known give him some cool factor.

But as a character, in general, just not that cool.

I don't feel the pricing has anything to do with the level of "Iconicism" a character carries. The particular figure was priced this high because of the die cast. If you compare it the releases HT has coming up its pretty much priced the same way.

I don't give a damn about anyone's preference on buying stuff... it's not my collection. I just feel like if people want this line to flourish they should buy the figure without having to wait until retailers decide it's a complete failure.... it's pretty much going to make or break future releases in the line.

Partially - perhaps, but not entirely.

I wasn't trying to blanket pan (& apologies to those who felt I did), but it's the 'just how cool IS 3PO really??' posts I was referring to specifically.

Cool is a relative term - sure, but the above example comes across as almost dismissive, while other things for close to the same price that are arguably less broad in appeal, get more attention.

The over & misuse of 3PO in the PT / other media, has helped tarnish his appeal a little too, so in that respect I can see why some don't resonate with him much now.

Unfortunately, this is so true. The prequel 3P0 is a caricature of the original, and that's how most people think of him now.

Gotcha.

Cool or not, I'd much rather have a 3PO figure in my collection than an Iron Man.

Yeah man!

Was the 3P0 considered a failure?
