...you are talking about the same Darkside who regularly gets his ass handed to him by Superman and several other noncosmic DC gimps, right? In sheer firepower, head to head, yeah, Darkside would probably win. However, Thanos would plan out the fight and have Darkside defeated multiple ways before it ever came to a physical fight; Hell, Thanos would probably track down the Anti-Life Equation and use it on Darkside just for the irony of it.
However, WHO has defeated Thanos? Only one character in the entire MU: Drax, and he was created by Mentor/Chronos with the sole purpose of killing Thanos. NON-Infinity Guantlet Thanos has taken full cosmic blasts from Silver Surfer and laughed, Thanos has beaten Warrior Thor, Thanos has conquered the entire Universe on more than one occasion.

I don't go for those "with prep time" arguments. I mean, even Robin could beat Thanos with enough prep time. All this to say that in the right writer's hands, Darkseid and Thanos would have the cosmic battle to end all cosmic battles. Ultimately, I'd tip the scale in Darkseid's favor because he has a greater access to the Universe's secrets.
P.S. Thanos was defeated in Marvel Two in One annual #2. It's a classic 2 parter alongside Avengers annual #7. If you haven't read it, I totally recommend the read.
P.P.S. And, a Thanos PF with infinity gauntlet ex is on my preorder speed dial, even if Darkseid has his number...

didn't Magus also have the power of a cosmic cube? Warlock also turned him to stone with the soul gem. I left out all of the infinity stuff on purpose...
Point is, Unless you are a major cosmic entity, you can't even harm Thanos. He is not my favorite villain, but there are very few Marvel characters who can stand up to him and even less if he actually takes an interest in destoying them.
Thanos has taken over the universe twice, Darkside...still getting beat up by Superman.

correction: Galactus has defeated Thanos...Also, Thanos not only took over the universe, but he also completely ended it before getting bored and bringing it back.

Ok, you're cool then. I have to admit that I don't really know alot about DC...but what I do know is really...dull. The only characters that I really find interesting are Green Lantern and Black Adam.
