The age old question when was or is the best time to be collecting statues?

No I don't miss them but that's just me. I obviously used to really like them but since I got into 1/4 Comic PF's I just much prefer them. It's just down to personal taste so I'm definitely not knocking them. Some of the 1/4 figures HT & EB have been making have been really impressive. I'm waiting for HT to make a 1/4 Pred, that I will buy but other than that I'm completely focused on 1/4 Comic statues.

Yes HT I liked them but 1/4 scale is what I want to focus on. LSF are cool but I can't display 100 of those in my place. Can anyone imagine the 100 brown boxes? wow! I can't imagine......

I wonder if we will get statues which will look life like? Some of those HT faces look life like already. The first company trying this new mixed of HT / PF statues will be pcs! This will be very interesting to see what comes of this.

not sure about that. Quality can go up but a price companies won't pay! I'm thinking the cost cutting around quality control and paint in today's economy is in our future

When you see something you like.
For instance i did not bother with statues at all al i just
bought and painted model kit's.
But when the Hitman agent 47 came out i was hooked.

I don't see the point in collecting statues just to collect them , if you know what i mean.
Don't just buy random statues and think oh they will increase in price.
And when the statue you want arrives open it and enjoy it.
Don't leave it in a box for 10 years and then sell it.

Just my thought's on the matter.

I disagree for the Quality. Sure Acurracy might get better (for a larger price)

The bigger the companies get... seems the worse the Quality in their products. Specifically geared towards QC issues and painting problems from SS and HT.

5 years ago! When company's seemed to care about their products... now it's about the cash! Dropping lines and not finishing them.... only concentrating on would cash cow instead of the unique.

The Best time was when these companies didn't care so much about all that. And it was more entertaining... Sideshows preview clips and teases were what really kept me engaged in this hobby... now we see a tease/preview once a year and wait forever for these products.

Accuracy on prototype only might get better lol. Not on end product.

When I see how things are packed nowadays it hurts. There was some pretty awesome packing years back and now it sucks!

Yes that's because now we are getting hollow statues as the norm.
But this new DC line hopefully will be great. This is the right time to get all the DC characters we all want. Congrats to all in the collecting in this fine time to get these! can't be a better time even with these insane ES, QC issues, and hollowing of statues. Overall I want pf of these, WW, supergirl, batgirl, power girl, doomsday, comic bane, catwoman, harley, bats and supes!

In the meantime SSC, BD, Koto and others are still putting out some decent looking products. Just get what you like and always try to put some thought into your collection and it will always be fun.

Unique? Star Wars Mythos line?

Not finishing them? Pretty sure SideShow just finished doing the entire Marvel universe in 1/5th scale fully sculpted Comiquettes.

Quality? Obi-wan Mythos is one of the best statues I have ever seen. Incredible detail, best face on a statue I have ever seen, and the statue tells a story. Simply amazing. Arthas? Incredible. Dutch PF is really nice. Croft PF is stunning. Batman looks to be grail and Poison Ivy is gorgeous. I could go on and on. And 5 years ago? Spider-man comiquette was only released 3 years ago. Diablo 3 Overthrown 2 1/2.

I feel as if I am Darklord Dave, defending this company that people are always ripping on. If you think SideShow has gone down the tubes and sucks, why the **** are you still buying their products? Or do you just come here to complain?

I was wondering in this hobby there's so much good stuff that came out a few years back like hulk, Thor, capt, red skull, spiderman PF and comiquettes, Iron man, war machine, venom, boba fett, vader, ms marvel, carnage, talon, punisher, many so called low ES grails etc. You get my point. I have started collecting for almost a year now. back collecting is no fun but then since I started I got great statues like vampi PF, lady death PF, storm, baby doll, rhino, skaar, Freddy, malgus, joker, Shaak Ti, Droids, galactus, etc. Then now the beggingnof the great DC line like ivy, bats, supes, WW, harley, catwoman, coming etc. these all mostly have no ES or super high ES statues. As a collector not for value but for the fun of collecting and how hard it was or will be to get these new pieces later on included to complete your own collection. So what was or will be your best time to collect statues in your own opinion? Older grails? New onslaught of the new grails? What time period is your most wanted statues from? To me I was going to say all the ones I missed about 5 years ago the marvel grails. But now in 2013 seems to be my year with so many of my most wanted statues coming out. The new DC line with bats, ivy, Harley, WW, joker as well included, cat woman, malgus, Shaak Ti, baby doll, grey hulk maquette, spider woman, and so many heavy hitters this year. So for me the best time would be right now. I'm not saying this because I missed the marvel grails. I'm saying this because there's even so many more of the great sculpts and statues I wanted now more so then 5 years back all coming out this year or so. I'm so glad I'm in this time to get many of my most wanted characters from DC, marvel, movies, and star wars. What was or is your best collection year or period?

I don't believe SideShow started releasing pieces that could stand up to current statues until the mid 2000's. And there were A LOT fewer excellent statues released back then, than today. So, now is better than it ever has been.

"Age old"? This is such a "young" hobby - expensive very high-end and high quality large statue collecting - heck, it's been around less than a decade, that asking when was the right time isn't a very intelligent question. I could understand if you asked that question for baseball cards, with a history of well over 70 years of card production. But the answer to that question is really simple too. The older the cards, the more valuable (excluding post 1992 to present insanely rare inserts).

I actually got into the game a few years ago and it was perfect for me. I paid a small premium on a few older pieces I wanted, Cap PF, Thor PF, the IM and War Machine maquettes, Mary Jame comi, but overall nothing too crazy. I love the new stuff coming out but the QA does seem to be taking a small hit here and there. Overall, I am thrilled with my timing. I am all in on the X-men line which I have gotten all at retail(cept wolverine which i refuse to get in his pjs). I was tempted to get Hulk PF but the new maquette gave me my only needed hulk! batman, supes, and Ivy have me giddy for the DC stuff...life is good for collectors right now.

I've been going back & buying personal Grail statues like Cap, Spidey, Thor etc but saying that I'm sure SS will start revisiting all them characters over the next few years. We already know there's a Punisher & Red Skull coming & obviously we all know about the DC line so comic wise everything's great.

The only line I can think of which would suck getting into now is the LOTR

I'm in the same boat as both of you. glad to be in now. Missed all the early grails, spent a lot to get some of them. Will buy more later. But timing now has been good for me to not miss storm ex, rhino ex, pcs kitana ex, shoa khan ex, bats ex, supes ex, etc

Yes there's been good/great statues since... But how many googly eye statues do I have to look at, flaking/poor paint jobs, etc..

People pay a high price for something that doesn't seem to be getting the same amount of attention that they use too.

BTW.. just because people complain, doesn't mean we are all carrying pitchforks and torches... people need to chill out on the internet.
