Yeah, the time and money spent for Penguin is just to have that name and reveal for the trailer and advertising. If it helps bring in butts, then that's all that matters.

It doesn't. Colin Farrell is box office poison. In fact, no one is even talking about Penguin. Actually, Pattison has been the only thing that's gotten any attention. Reminds me of Batman Begins. If the film is good, I expect it to be a moderate success like Batman Begins. It'll make more the the $350 mill that BB made in 2005, but I don't see The Batman being a billion dollar film.

Now the sequel, that could be big like TDK if they get a truly great villain that gets people excited. They could go with Joker again, maybe Phoenix's Joker could get people talking too, but I would use a different villain or brand new never before used character and a big name actor like Nicholson was back in 89 to play the role. Joker is overexposed. Someone like Daniel Day Lewis as Mr Freeze or Leo Dicaprio (who is slowly morphing into Jack ), would get people talking.

Pat might not be the Bruce Wayne people are used to seeing, might be like the Bale Wayne when he comes back from Harvard. But his Batman looks real edgy and I like that from a Year Two Batman. This Covid sucks, we could've already digested this movie and be a third of the way through Phase 4.

In the 80s, 90s, and even 2000s that would have sounded absurd. I don't know if it dilutes the brand or character, but it certainly doesn't help the latest actor and future Batman to compete with a beloved nostalgic Batman in Keaton or a fan favorite who "deserves" a good film in Affleck.

I rather have the MCU volume and quality over TDK for a DCCU. But if we are talking best superhero movie, The Dark Knight truly has no competition. It isn’t even in the best superhero discussion, it is in the greatest movie of all time discussion.
