Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

I am gonna miss some classic lines like, 'I'm not wearing hockey pants'
I love that line, actually. And "I'll get drive throgh" from BF. :lol
Yes, I like my Batman be funny given the opportunity. Old school. :nana:

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

I hope they do something way different like Mr. Freeze or Man-Bat or some villain that hasn't been done justice. If it's Joker again, especially Miley Cyrus Joker, it's going to be a bit repetitive. I'd like to see a Batman movie with some compassion and a more tragic villain than a straight up bad guy.

I wouldn't hold my breath considering...

... that Joker will be free by the end of SS.
He will be in it one way or another, that's inevitable.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

Since he's a seasoned Batman, I'm hoping for:
- Oracle
- Nightwing (if the rumors aren't true)
- Jason Todd

I either want the love interest to be Selina Kyle (reformed) or Vicki Vale.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

A small story with Batman using his detective skills would be nice. Nothing too bombastic with him having to save the city or something like that. They should also introduce the Penguin not as a main villain, but as the owner of the Iceberg Lounge, and as Batman's informant.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

As wrong as Bale was. :dunno
I thought Bale was an inspired choice for Bruce, previously having seen American Psycho. He could play a wealthy, arrogant, out of touch businessman very well. And I think he did in the Nolan films. If you listen to CEOs or politicians talk, they don't sound very natural or relatable, so I wouldn't have wanted that out of Wayne. And I also thought his Batman was fine, even growly voice. I think Ben could make an equally good Bats, but concerned about his believability as Wayne.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

I think Affleck will be great as director and screenwriter. I was kind of hoping he would be directing BvS.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

It was going to happen. But I'm so glad that its going to happen with Geoff Johns on board. That's terrific.

Those two words make me nervous Geoff. Johns. Sure he wrote JL and sure he is a bigwig there at DC but people forget that he came in at the eleventh hour for the original Green Lantern and FUBAR'd it. An already awkward script was just made more so with his interjections. It was originally based on Emerald Twilight and he was the one who decided to slant it towards Parallax to tie with what he was doing in the books concurrently. He added a lot of the stuff people cringed at and given how much more important he has become at DC since then this doesn't fill me with great confidence. I'm all for Affleck directing (but what if he is pretending to direct a Batman film to get hostages out of Iran?) but Johns writing is a little nervewracking.

If they were going to take a DC writer who isn't reined back at all and have him write the big screen version they might as well have gotten Scott Snyder. At least his New 52 Batman was well done in terms of tone and feel in the beginning.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

Affleck will make a great Batman film- then move on. Don't wear it out too soon.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

This is the kind of announcement that feels more like hype than truth. Like when Lucas and Spielberg said they liked "Crystal Skull" so much that they were planning two more Indiana Jones films with Ford. Yeah? Where are they?

I think a lot of this "talk" is just to keep the movie relevant to the masses that don't absorb every detail. Obviously, the success or failure of SvB -- and more importantly its perception afterward -- will determine if this actually comes to pass.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

Great news!

And I hope we get an "active, athletic" Batman. Swinging from rooftops, moving fluidly martial arts-wise, and I don't mind if they use some CGI to assist. I want a comic-like Batman, kind of like how we finally got with Cap in "The Winter Soldier".

I wonder though if the movie will be "prequel" to the BvS/Justice League DCU stuff or we'll follow Batman afterwards...

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

This is fantastic! Ben Affleck will be able to bring the goods to this I am sure. I hope that he and his team will be running point on the script, however. As Mike said, Scott Snyder would have been a better choice for this over Geoff Johns. Scott Snyder is the best Batman writer in recent history, IMO. However, I have faith in Affleck.

Re: Ben Affleck Batman film

Never doubted Affleck as being able to portray Bats -- and my faith in him as a director is even greater. Zach "Slow-Mo" Snyder's style has grown tiring.

It'll happen, contractually more than anything else. I wouldn't be shocked if he makes only one though as was talked about above. He'll be in BvS, then JL I & II and is cameoing in SS. That's 4 films already. Adding this to the mix is 5 and that feels like he'd be ready to walk at that point.

This.

I'm sick of all these plot macguffins where the whole city (or world) is in danger. You can tell a story for a comic book film without some huge, "epic", high stakes BS, especially with a character like Batman.
