Before The Hobbit comes out and most likely destroys the films listed above I thought I'd see what people thought was the best fourth film in a movie series. It used to be very rare for sequels to go that far, now we're seeing it more and more. I did not include full on reboots in this list (so films like Batman Begins don't count) only those that acknowledge the previous films in the series.

Though I predict Rocky IV will win this, I went with ST:The Voyage Home. I never tire of that movie.

First Class is going to own this poll, but I voted Star Trek because I don't think FC belongs. Despite the filmaker's efforts, it just seems totally outside of the Singer series (and is the 5th movie if you count Wolverine). Great movie, I just don't think it counts a proper 4th, it's more of a reboot, imo.

Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides got my vote.It is really good sequel much much better than crappy 3rd and first one.Great plot and good jokes.Im not sure if its better than second one.I need to watch that again.

It makes me feel a bit dirty and short-sighted voting for a film currently at the theaters, but there are only a few on that list that are even in the running to me: Rocky IV, Star Trek IV, Rambo, and X-Men. And X-Men is arguably the best of the series (which I don't think any of those others can claim to be) and in my opinion, the best of any film on that list.

In full disclosure though, don't think I saw that Harry Potter.

Spin-offs are tricky because they share the same universe but I don't consider them a part of the same series. Otherwise Thor would technically be fourth as well after Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man 2.

I think comic book movies should be treated like comics, with numbering systems for the main series separate from each individual spin-off or single character series.

Great point karamazov about X-Men: FC being the only one on the list that is arguably the best of its respective series.

X-Men: First Class is going to take this without a doubt, mainly because X-Men 3 was so horrible. Rocky III was great and Rocky IV was good but on par. Alien: Resurrection was horrible, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was a letdown after all of that anticipation. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for a lot of fans is their least liked of the films and the one that was panned the hardest. Rambo did kick ass but the thought is that it kept the line going not outdid it by a lot of folks, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crysal Skull has been abused enough. Terminator: Salvation was another letdown especially after the buildup and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is actually viewed by many people as less than At World's End.

The difference? Return of the King was ____ing EPIC. It was the kind of film that you get lost in and perfectly done. Those are enormous ____ing shoes for The Hobbit to fill especially considering the target audience is different between the two originally.

Almost voted for Potter, as the fourth film was my favorite. But I couldn't help voting for First Class.

But I'll take the most recent Pirates movie over the third one any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Interesting poll. Rocky IV is my favorite of that series and was HUGE when it came out.

Though I would go with Star Trek IV.

I haven't seen the new X-men or Pirates flick yet, so my vote is likely skewed :lol

But I surprised myself and voted for TPM :lol Its not a great movie, but there are parts of it I genuinely enjoy and I've watched it more than any of the others.

Eight years ago I would have said the amount of good 4 movies in a series would be down to like Thunderball and Rocky IV but things have changed. I loved Goblet of Fire, the first time we see a fully formed Voldemort and voted for that. Lately, meaning this summer, the last Pirates movie was one of the best of that series and X-Men First Class could be argued as the best of the X-Men series. Can't wait for the Hobbit to come out.

First Class. Nothing else on the list comes close.

Without having seen Pirates, my second choice would actually be HP 4. I personally liked it because I thought the fourth book was rather bloated and had a bit too much filler.

First Class. It's probably my favorite Marvel flick of the bunch.

And aside from Rambo, and Rocky, the rest can die.
