In a world of sequels, reboots, remakes, prequels, adaptations, this felt fresh. It took a simple concept, stretched it out, set it apart from every other horror flick. It's not the most original film, but it was very clever.

For horror fans who love all the goofy, cheesy fun horror flicks of the 80's, it's a treat to watch. The nods, the references..ect.

But if you're into deadly serious horror flicks, then this won't do it for you.

How surprising, board members known for hating things are hating things

I didn't hate the movie, just the blind praise and credit fanboys give certain directors. It's the same with Lucas and Nolan.

See but I'm not just into serious horror, Ghostbusters is one of my favorites, probably right behind The Shining and The Thing, but your first paragraph sums up my problem, we've lowered our expectations as a whole as an audience.

Yep. We have. Still.

Maybe it's starting to bother people when films are praised highly. Because then people have unrealistic expectations for it. Even if the movie actually deserved it. It's why most movies made today are overrated as ____. Pretty much every big movie is overrated and over praised. But that's just how our culture is now.

Either everything's "EPIC" or "Gay". Kinda sucks. Nothing can be "Yeah. That was a good fun movie. I enjoyed it."

It's "OMFG SO AWSOME. BEST MOVIE EVER". No matter the ____ing movie.

Hope for change people. Hope for change. :D

I enjoyed it.

Absolutely LOVED the Harbinger phone conversation--- "Am I on speaker phone?"

:rotfl

I think a lot of people tend to not like this because the director has such a strong following, and some people hate that fact. They can't get past it.

That's true of anything - James Cameron deserves the praise he gets, but people hate him because he gets all this praise. (Same with Whedon).

And attacking Whedon fans for elevating it doesn't really explain why all the critics are also loving the film (except the senile like Rex Reed).

It's not a big complex explication of horror movies - but it does deal with the genre in a way that is new and different, yet is still reflexive of what we're all thinking when we watch a horror movie.

I liked SCREAM a lot, but this movie was far, far, far more entertaining.

Exactly.

And these people who keep trying to explain the movie like the fact they understood it was some amazing feet, it's a pretty simple straight forward film, let me assure you those of us who don't like aren't confused, you'd have to be special needs. In fact it's that I do get it which is why I dislike it a bit.

The fact that Whedon simply stole a bunch of horror films and cobbled them togeather into the Truman show which he wrote in 2 days is not impressive, and the fact that people are calling that original and innovative is completely retarded and my main problem with this. His fans are just like the Avatards who thought that was original and the biggest emotional eye opening experiance they ever had thanks to Sci-Fi. Theres nothing wrong with a movie like this or Avatar making money, theres everything wrong with misplaced critical praise of originality. This is no Evil Dead, No Ghostbusters, not even close.
:clap:hi5::goodpost::yess:.Pretty much sums up how I feel.

That has Zero, nada, zilch, no bearing on why I didn't like this film. It's about as bad as Celtic telling me I wanted to go in hating it. If a person doesn't like Whedon, why would he go see a movie of his?

I didn't even know who Drew Goddard was until I saw this movie.

I'm not even all that caught up on "originality" anymore. I mean what really is original anymore.

The first half of the film was a lot better than its second half. It went from a potential 8 to a solid 6/10 imo.

This is the best movie of the year so far. It was sofaking good! If I were a kid this would have blown my mind, still just an all around GREAT movie.

I've seen it twice now. Whether or not it's original or worthy of the hype it's gotten is debatable but I was entertained from beginning to end and that's all I care about. But then again I like the Star Wars prequels so my taste in movies is questionable :lol

Nice Post by a truly honest man.

I was excited to go see this movie, now not sure because of the polarizing mixed reviews. I'll wait for Red Box.
