Okay, for argument sake let me say this.

I've mulled over the design of the bike and it's several design flaws
that it has in the movie.

Now do I want it film accurate? This is normally what I really strive for.

Or do I want it as accurate as possible while being functional.

So after going back and forth on the subject, I decided to go
for the mix of realistic, functional and film accurate.

1st and foremost; the gun turrent & ammo box on the front.

There are several problems with the set up the way it is in the film.

A) The ammo box is to small to support the rounds that would go in the machine gun and they used it as a launcher as well(not possible).

B) There is no ammo feeder to the guns or a place for the large shells of the launcher part.

So to solve these issues and try to stay close to film accurate,
here is my solution.

I've gotten the correct size rounds, the correct size ammo box
and fed the rounds to the guns. This makes the ammo box a bit bigger
than the film version but now it actually looks like it could function.
Yes the feeder is coming out the side, but I think it works. I still didnt add
anything for the large launcher rounds.

Here it is, let me know your thoughts.

There are more issues, but I'm still working them out for the back of the bike.

I'll post more pictures when I solve them....=]

Well the second issue that bugged me a bit was with the side canisters and how they tied into
the rocket or jet like turbine on the back.

After looking a lot of screen shots and finding that the hoses go to the rocket. I was
also able to find some that go into the direction of the engine. So they had the right idea, I just took
it one step further.

The canisters on the side then, must be some kind of fuel pumps and/or combustor. To create the
proper mix and carry the fuel to the jet engine and/or light that firecracker...

I suppose the combustor could be under the plate over the jet engine. Either way, after some
research, I find that the design flaw was with the missing valve to connect the engine to the
pumps and combustors.

So here it is. The final set up and finished bike.

Without completely redesigning the pump canisters, I made some minor changes and
also made a valve underneath the seat that connects the whole set up to the engine.
By using the power of the engine to push the pumps & combustors, there is an actual
possibility that you could in fact light this puppy up.

Of course then that means the bike would have to run
on rocket fuel, which is possible I guess with some heavy mods. The octane is a lot higher, but that would mean
if you used the rocket turbine, that you would blow your fuel load within about 90 seconds. Which is fine, they only
used it once in the film to launch the bike as a bomb into the bunker doors.

IKE, thanks for the last bit of inspiration I needed to start a bike project of my own. Just bought a Hasbro Harley from Amazon and plan to follow your receipt pretty closely. Got a Question if you don't mind. I get the impression there is an ammo can on each side of the front wheel, but I'm not sure. Seems like there should be a can or each gun. Also, is the ammo 30 cal?

As to your questions.

Actually, there is only an ammo box on one side. Here are the
pictures of the bike from the movie I used.

Side with ammo box.

Side without but with machinegun sheath.

I did use the 30 cal ammo box(try to cover that up lol), but I think the rounds are 50 cal.
They dont actually fit inside to well, just a little to long. But I was
able to dremel a slot on the side so they could come out correctly.
I seem to remember a doubled barrel machinegun in that era. Perhaps the lewis or Bira style.
Not sure though. But I know they had a single feeder.

It's just some metal parts (water softner, I think) and a couple
of packs of some hard rubber things I put together with a little work..

They were only like $2.00 for a box of 20 at lowes. I think the metal parts came 1 or 2 to a pack and were only a couple of bucks each.

I think if I made another one, I'd use one of the parts on the left in this picture above.
It wouldn't be as film accurate but it would be a more realistic turbine.

So I guess I went for more film accurate on that part.
I think I dremeled a little notch on the fender and the
little metal ribbed parts kinda just snapped into place.
But just to be safe, I added a few drops of super glue.
You do have to seperate the lights on back for the
rocket turbine to fit correctly.

You also have to dremel down the rubber parts to fit
in the metal ones. But once you get it close it pushes in there
and never comes out. But again, I added a few drops a super glue.
the kool thing is; before you glue it down, you can stick a small
screwdriver in there and adjust the rubber part to point the way
you want.

The canisters are the same parts with a few extras added(which I don't
have anymore to take pictures of). They were little metal 1/2 inch
long tube ends. I think you attached the rubber hoses to them
when you set up a water softer(under the sink kind). I put 2 of the
rubber things on the little metal tube ends(had to glue it to stay).
That gave me something to connect the bike hoses to. I also
put another rubber insert in the bottom, so I'd have another place to
attach the bike lines to. The metal parts came included in a few of
the other metal parts I bought. They are not sold by themselves.

I think that covers everything. If you need more info, let me know.
Also if you cant find the parts, I can send you some if you pay the
shipping. I have whats pictured, so you'd have to find more of the
rubber parts if you followed what I did. But who knows, you
may very well find better parts to use just walking around a home
depot or lowes. That's what I did, just walked around looking at
a bunch of different parts.

I love working with real leather and real dirt/mud. It really gives it that
realistic look and smell. No way to fake that...

Bike is coming together nicely. Found that a Jeep headlight could be modified nicely to form the smaller yellow lens light. Also thought that SCUBA tanks might work for the rocket booster fuel tanks. Found that a pop rivet makes a pretty good valve/hose connector. Put some black heat shrink over some of those plastic/wire toy tie downs. They make really good pose able hoses. Got a Jeep rear view mirror on order to see if it will work on the bike. Did you repaint the entire bike? If not, whose paint is a close match to the olive drab of the original paint job?

Will post photos one this bear is complete.
