For those interested...the "Terminator Salvation" story goes on in a decent group of paperbacks that chronicle events before during and after what was seen in the film...
Well, since a sequel to this seems pretty unlikely at this point in time...the only way experience these characters is through the paperbacks put out from Titan Books.
Prior to the movie, there was a "prequel" book by Timothy Zahn "From the Ashes", that focused on a marine who ends up helping a small community of survivors in LA fend off the Terminators and have a brush with the resistance. It's a great introduction to this post-judgeship day world that McG and his artisans crafted for the film.
Then came the movie adaptation by Alan Dean Foster...a good effort with a bit a weak ending...what happens in the film isn't here (maybe because this was based on an earlier script and the movie wasn't locked in time for publication deadlines.....happens all the time)...but it's still a good read.
Next came "Cold War" from Greg Cox...featuring a story the centers on General Losenko, the Russian Sub Commander seen in the film on the Resistance Headquarters submarine...in events around the time of Judgment Day right up to the film. Also featured is an Alaskan Park Ranger, Molly Kookesh who contends with her own struggles against the Terminators in a the frontier wilds...some great set-ups for situations we've never seen with Terminators before. Another great read...
And finally...Timothy Zahn has penned another addition to the saga..."Trial By Fire". This one takes place in the weeks following the conclusion of the film. The story features Blair and Barnes and how a simple mission to find and bury Barnes' brother (who was killed in the raid on the VLA in the beginning of the film) turns into an investigation of a small community of post-Judgment Day survivors and some secrets they may have about what was really going on in that facility. Zahn's crafted a real page-turner here...a good story I was sad to see end.
I know this movie got a lot of flack from folks who frequent these boards, but I really enjoyed it...I've also really dug getting the figures from Hot Toys...and someday I'll pickup a few more.
At least these great books help keep that part of the Terminator saga going....I hope there are more in the future...
