Re: The Dark Knight Rises

If the "Rises" theme is really supposed to symbolically represent Batman redeeming himself for something (and not just getting back on the horse after getting physically and emotionally knocked down by Bane), I wonder what that something will be? What did he do in the first two films that he needs to redeem? I guess he technically killed Harvey, maybe that's it (I don't figure he needs to redeem himself for Harvey's crimes since he didn't actually commit them despite them being pinned on him)? His being responsible for freakshow bad guys coming to town, and indirectly responsible for all associated acts such as Rachel getting killed? All of the above? Something else? And redemption from whom? The public? Fox? Himself? Ra's (maybe he realizes Ra's was right and wants to be redeemed by destroying Gotham like the poster suggests he will do)? God?

Seems to me that Batman tried his best to do what he thought was best for Gotham. If he committed sins, it seems due to unpredictable, unintended consequences more than anything else. And is that something warranting redemption? He always tried to live by his code, even though he had a funny way of interpreting it at times (it is OK to let a guy fall to his death but not OK to kill that same guy before he died from the fall?), so you gotta figure that he feels he didn't have to compromise. . .no redemption required for that. Or maybe he must be redeemed for viewing the world in black and white terms when it really exists in shades of gray (again, reflecting his newfound acceptance of Ra's's methods and willingness to destroy Gotham and/or allow it to be destroyed while seriously injured Gordon whines about his being gone)?

I am not remotely concerned with any of these questions. More fights and explosions, please.

Yeah after seeing the teaser, I was thinking of Batman's "redemption" as well.

Does it matter what the public thinks of Batman? I would think it would be to his advantage to have criminals and citizens alike believe that Batman is a psychotic murderer now. Why does he need to be redeemed? In TDK you could tell his enemies feared Batman less and less as the film progressed. Now, his status might not be "creature of the night" like it was once was in Begins, but it's still a more intimidating than simply a guy in a mask and cape. If anything it adds a layer to him.

He's always been on the run hasn't he? There's always been a task force after him since he was a vigilante.

As for him "throwing in the towel" so to speak based on Gordon's dialogue in the teaser, didn't we already see this in TDK? I thought Wayne was past this "people are dying, things are turning to crap, time to stop being Batman" attitude. If anything, I thought towards the end of TDK, especially with the death of Rachel that he embraced the idea of being Batman and living a centric life, as Batman. After seeing I guess "how far" he was willing to go to stop the Joker, I guess I figured we would see him at his most obsessed in this one.

Unless maybe Bane incapacitates Wayne somehow or he has to go into hiding if everyone wants his head after "killing Harvey Dent".

Perhaps Bane wins over the public and the authorities have no problem with Bane going after Batman? No clue.

All I know is, there are two things, (currently being speculated all over the web) that I don't want to see.

- Bruce/Batman dying
- Bruce giving up and retiring as Batman for philanthropy (it's rumored that he's going to give back and there's involvement with orphans or something).

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Man, the end of that trailer is so epic. Batman really looks shook up. It honestly reminds me of ripley vs. the alien queen or something. Goosebumps, man.

alright no more coming back here... is there anyone one of you mods can ban me from this thread only?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I saw it and I thought it was interesting.

Batman backing away from Bane was Great stuff.

For some reason, I was drawn more to the vertical building shots aiming upward to the symbol than the footage. I'm also thinking Marion Cotillard, who supposedly play's a Wayne Enterprise associate, is actually Talia al Ghul in disguise (just like Ras al Ghul did as Henry Ducard).

I hope the movie ends with something similar to Batmans cowl being found on the ground by a young guy, who picks it up and looks up at the sky. As the camera angle zooms out, it should show a newly designed bat symbol shining. The guy should go unamed since he would be alone, but everyone would assume it was Richard Grayson (around 17-22 years old...whatever). That way, he could skip Robin and become Batman or Nightwing if they ever continued the story. After all, Nolan said "no Robin", not "no Grayson" I believe. If he did, thats ridiculous. I'm pretty sure everyone hates that idea, but oh well. All of this loops back around to Harvey Dent's speech about Batman looking for someone to take up the mantle. PLUS

if gordons back really gets broken by bane, it would be more of a motivation for his daughter to become Batgirl or Oracle in the future when Richard decides to be Batman or Nightwing.

I still don't get how someone can be a Batman fanboy, and diss everything that surrounds Batmans legacy besides Alfred. WTF!? I mean seriously, the DCU & Nolan verse could use some serious expansions, and giving spotlight to Batmans "legacy" would be good for business. New characters would get major amounts of spotlight and DC could profit quite nicely from it. In the end, not many will say F it because it's about Nightwing/New Batman and Oracle/Batgirl, instead of Bruce Wayne. For anyone saying you can't have Nightwing without Robin, or Grayson needs to be trained by Bruce...tell that to the guy who made Batman be trained by Ras al Ghul. Things can be changed for the better. Robin isn't needed to have Nightwing.

god the trailer looks so freaking awesome...its so different to what i would of expected but thats why the chris nolan batman films are good is because they make a left turn i.e. not your typical superhero film !!!

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I'd love to see Nightwing, skipping the Robin. You make some very good points.

Whatever the ending will be... I think it'll be something noone saw coming

You sir, are afraid of change.:ohbfrank: It would be nice to see an athletic crime fighter who's extremely agile over batmans close quarters combat, elbow/neck strike galore from the past two movies.
