Re: The Dark Knight Rises

"From a fairly early stage in the process of making the three films,' says Christopher Nolan, 'we knew how Bruce's story would end."

I have a hard time believing Bruce's "end" entered into the mind of anybody when making "Batman Begins". Maybe they started turning those gears after box office receipts came in, which is still "early" in the overall grand scheme of things ...I guess :dunno

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm not a hater or anything like that, but I do find the general response to this movie so far to be bipolar. I hear unrealistic hyperbole along with nitpicky negativity.
On one hand I hear:

Movie of the year!
$200 million opening weekend!
14 Oscar nominations including best picture!
Christopher Nolan is a mastermind!
This movie will have powerful performances, a complex, intriguing plot and intense action!
Audiences can't wait to find out how the series concludes!

On the other hand I hear:
Bane isn't big enough and you can't understand what he is saying.
Christian Bale is a ham.
Why the hell did they cast the Princess Diaries chick to play Catwoman.
The Dark Knight was a perfect storm because of Ledger.
The general audience doesn't care about or know who Bane is as a character.
Bane isn't as interesting as Heath Ledger's Joker
and," I'm just not feeling it this time around."

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I'd argue that Bane is much more well known to the general audience than Ra's Al Ghul was, and Batman Begins did just fine.

Agreed. Plus, I honestly think most of the haters just hate because of how successful the Nolan Batman films are. Typically I am in that boat, but because typically, highly successful movies, like Pirates, or Avatar, are not very good (in my opinion). They cater to the lowest common denominator, and are not thought provoking in the least bit. Just flashy.

The Nolan Batman films definitely have that flash to them, but they are so much more, and really make you think.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I'm thinking while I posted a lot of others opinions, my own feelings are probably in the middle. I am sure I will enjoy it but I don't have a lot of expectations.

I am glad they went with Bane over someone like the Riddler. The Riddler would have been a little redundant after the Joker. I think introducing Catwoman was a no-brainer. I'm not sold on what I've seen of Nolan's interpretation of Bane and Catwoman, but I'll wait until I see it to decide.
I do think the movie will be a critical and financial success but not to the level The Dark Knight reached.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Other bits from the article:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt
"I would say The Dark Knight Rises, even more so than the first two movies, speaks to our specific moment right now"

Tom Hardy
"There is nothing vague about Bane. He's a very clean, clear villain."

Hardy says the much-talked-about voice he developed for the role was inspired by his desire to honor the comic character's brains and heritage, albeit in an elliptical way. He wanted a sound that conveyed malevolence and old-soul wisdom.

"There were two doors we could walk through. We could play a very straightforward villain or we could go through this very quirky door, which is totally justified by the text but may seem very, very stupid. It's a risk because we could be laughed at or it could be very fresh and exciting."

"It was a complete downhill plummet when I heard about Mad Max and then I was hauled into the heavens. I think he worried it would be something I might not consider because wearing a mask might damage my career or something. He thought I'd be worried that the audience couldn't see my beautiful face. Like I care. It's Chris Nolan! I would wear a paper bag over my head for that man."

Chris Nolan
[on the villains] "Our starting point has always been, who could this person be in the real world?"

He couldn't resist taking a peek at the viral sensation that synched the dialogue from a Rises trailer with footage from The Lion King. "That one got thrust in front of me. I thought it was pretty epic."

While many moviegoers can't wait to see the grand finale of Nolan's Batman opus, Hathaway can. She's one of those actors who can't stand to watch themselves on screen, and she's more spooked than usual to watch her performance as Catwoman. "I need to have a helmet, and Chris needs to sit next to me and press a button whenever I appear on screen so I can have sensory deprivation. I know the story. I won't be lost."

:lol

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Thanks for this, another great read

Forgot these.

Selina Kyle: The next-generation Catwoman is no campy vixen or gothic ghoul like previous versions of the feline character, but a wily, witty con artist armed with tools like high-tech nightvision goggles. Christopher Nolan says, "She has a very strong way of protecting herself and those she cares about, which implies an underlying darkness."

Bane: A more nuanced version of the pumped-up, 'roid raging comic-book villain, Nolan's Bane is a brilliant brute whose harrowing ambitions target Gotham's rich and powerful. His mask is a respirator that helps him manage a painful malady. "He represents formidable physical strength, combined with absolute evil of intention," says Nolan.

John Blake: He's a Gotham City beat cop who works directly for his hero, Commissioner Gordon. "I felt like I was jumping in during senior year," says Joseph Gordon-Levitt of joining the final film of the series after appearing in Nolan's Inception. "There was a big sense of completion, as well as a sense of confidence."

Miranda Tate: She's a do-gooding suit who sits on the board of Wayne Enterprises and takes a shine to glum, emotionally frozen Bruce. It seems The Dark Knight Rises isn't all doom, gloom, and damaged adults in scary Halloween costumes- there's also romance! As Nolan says, "She represents the hope that Bruce can be brought back to life again."

Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Awesome! Man I can't wait to see what twists this film with bring, reading those descriptions of Miranda Tate and John Blake, there's definitely more to those two
