I don't know about this...

Keanu Comes in Peace (Except for the Killer Nanobots): Keanu Reeves took to the Comic-Con stage to introduce a preview of The Day the Earth Stood Still, a remake of the classic Robert Wise sci-fi tale about a messianic alien named Klaatu who says he's looking for peace but gets met with war (and, in the new one, Jennifer Connelly).

However, in this new one, the alien played by Keanu seems considerably more warlike himself. In the film's trailer, you get a glimpse of an interrogation scene, and the Comic-Con crowd got to see more. Realizing Keanu may be a threat, his interrogator hits the electric shock button—only to find the signal reverses back on him. Keanu takes his suit, and walks out, looking remarkably…Neo-like.

"In the original, Klaatu was a little warm and fuzzy," said Reeves, "I'm not that guy!"

Considering he seems to have deadly nanobot clouds that can eat football stadiums, we'd have to agree.

Interesting. Significantly more violent than the original, from the trailer... Let's see. Looks epic though, and looks like it WANTS to take itself seriously... let's hope I take it seriously.

There's a new 5 minute trailer up. I'm still not totally sold on this movie yet.

I'm looking forward to it. I don't know why, exactly. Perhaps I just have something for big-budget sci-fi flicks. Maybe because I'm fond of the original. Or maybe it's because I like Jennifer Connelly that much.

I'm just wary of one aspect: there are a lot of explosions, so I'm expecting action/sci-fi cg-fest, which would be a bit disappointing.

I think this looks pretty great. I like Keanu's delivery. Always been a fan. He gets a bad rap. He's a good actor. And it looks in keeping with the overall message of the original classic.

Keanu has to be the worst actor of all time. Which is why this movie will stink, like every other remake. Does anyone have an original idea anymore?

So...
did anybody watched this?
It was OK, but with some major flaws...
personally what I hated the most
were those stupid metal-like insects
there was absolutely no need for that...

Anyone else saw this?

saw it last night.........it was okay i suppose. the writing & storytelling for getting klaatu to change his mind about his original purpose he was there for was weak and a little too quick IMHO.

I've just renamed this film "The Day the Earth Wasted 2 Hours Of Their Life".

Terrible non-sense movie.

It wasn't great, but not terrible either. Keanu at least was perfectly cast as an emotionless alien.

I wanted to strangle the kid though. And he's going to be the Karate Kid?

Effects were good - GORT was decent. Can't really recommend it, but perhaps it will encourage people to seek out the original.

Keanu Reeves was perfect. Gort looked awesome as well. But the movie was just blah.

The kid was awful. And why the interracial stuff? Was the father black and his wife white, both black, father white and wife black? I don't see the point in the kid being black other than having Will Smith's son in the movie (and I'm sure he will be forced into more films as well).
