In 1991, I use to visit an older friend of mine who lived in Santa Cruz, CA, he was a Vietnam vet/surfer and he would use a Hookah all the time. Back then us youngsters didn't know what it was called, only that the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland and Middle Eastern guys used it. Now I see these EVERYWHERE in San Jose.

I wonder if anti-smoking laws were created by the hookah industry. Isn't that how it works? Lobbyists draft legislation that seems like it will do some marginal good for society, and then their parent corporations reap the benefits of the new restrictions on what was formerly their competitors' market? I never saw a hookah bar in Maine until they banned smoking in restaurants.
