i FAWKING hate Brazil! That movie makes me wanna shoot myself! It's overrated! But Fear and Loathing is that shat!

You know? I totally agree. I love most of Gilliam's films, especially Fear and Loathing and Brothers Grimm... but Brazil never worked for me. It was different, but I didn't really like it all that much.

Brazil is Gilliam's statement on Corporate America, and how bureaucratic everything has become. How money is spent needlessly on so many things that are utterly useless. It's also his statement on what people do to fit into society (the plastic surgery - "there was a complication... to the complication" - brilliant). Everything has become de-personalized. I could go on...

But the film is definitely not for everyone - I'm just surprised that you guys actually like Gilliam (and therefore get Gilliam), but didn't enjoy it. What did you guys think of Baron Munchaussen?

While I absolutely LOVED Fear and Loathing, after about an hour, there was almost no point to the story - it was just drug trip after drug trip (which was very fun to watch). As for Brothers Grimm - you can tell that his hands were tied by the studio. Gilliam was furious at the Weinsteins for what they did to him during the shoot.

Don't get me wrong, as a piece of art... Brazil is amazing. The story just never worked for me, I get it.. but it was a bit too crazy for me. I still have respect for it's artistry and beauty, but it's just not my slice of cinema.

As for Baron Munchaussen, I have never seen that... but would really like to.

Gilliam was a member of Monty Python. He did all the animation for the movies and series.

Batty speaks the truth. And Life of Brian was pretty good, not as hilarious or classic as Holy Grail but still pretty damn funny.

I don't know how I feel about this movie...it seems like the story isn't interesting to me. I'll see it regardless, of course, because the costumes and special effects look cool.

Yeah, I saw it this past weekend. Gilliam has never been known for coherent scripts and this was complicated by the casting problems. It was an ingenious way of solving the problem, but just didn't work.

Nice art direction though.

I liked it quite a bit, actually!!
More so than Brazil but not as much as 12 monkeys.
But a great movie overall...
