Personally I'm not sure why people complain about the price, I think this ''remake'' is for fans and for the people who haven't played it at all? Original remaster looks still very good so if 70$ is lot for you, you can still buy original for 19$ or even less on sale. I haven't played this game till last week simply bc had no playstation before, now I'm so obsessed ...I'll gladly pay 70$ for this. It's a new built and people worked hard on it,as an artist myself I always value other people's work and in the end of the day, if you want the game it doesn't really matter what is a price, 70$ or 50$. Very excited for it personally, after finishing the game I feel emptiness inside so definitely playing this on day 1. However I'll never pay for Part 2 until they remake and fix the story lol Joel my babie lives.

P.S. I think it would be great if they offered few alternative endings and story developments in TLOS Part 2, as a Witcher fan I'm very proud of CDPR for caring about fans and giving 3 alternative endings based on our decisions.

I dunno, I think there should be some kind of loyalty discount. If your fans have already bought the game twice then it's a big ****** to ask them to buy it a third time for $10 more imo.

Games on Steam used to do this all the time, if you owned the prequel or previous version of the game you'd get a "loyalty discount" on the new one.

But I wouldn't expect that from Sony, they're extremely anti-consumer even if they like to pretend their the opposite.

I believe there will be sale around Xmas. 40% off or something.

Sony is just being greedy. Remake or not. The game was already fleshed out, not needed to be thought out, written, voiced completely, built from te ground up. That's already been paid for. Twice. And I'm one of those who contributed twice. Sony could have gotten my 40,- maybe 50,- euro's. Now the most they can have is 30,- and maybe even 20,-.

Some of you guys are being so pissy about this.

If you don’t like the price tag, just don’t buy it. Or wait for a sale. There’s no sense in sitting here and having a war over it. That’s arguing just for the sake of arguing.

Video game studios are having trouble turning a profit these days. That’s why the price went up $10 for all games on the new generation. It’s also why games are being overrun by microtransactions these days. Studios are trying to recoup ever increasing development costs. If a remake at full price is what’s best for business, who cares?

Personally speaking, I’m all for remakes of old games on modern tech. I wish Ubisoft would do this with the old Assaasin’s Creed games. I wish Rockstar would do it for Red Dead. If Naughty Dog made another Nathan Drake collection for PS5, I’d buy it.

Modern tech looks so good. If this is the price we pay, so be it. There will be sales by the holidays.

What's different about you being vocal that you are fine with the price. You talk like a PR rep. Videogame devs make more sales than ever because the industry is bigger than ever. They can make money on many ways. The merchandise side of things is also bigger than ever. Big studios are in in to make money. Smaller devs maybe, are more 'true to the cause' as a way of speaking. Saying they need to put in mico transactions because of higher development costs sounds really naive. They do it because they can and people pay for fluff real easy. Look at nfts. The world can be without them. Nobody want them is all I have read, and yet it booming business. Each their own as always, but being defensive about microtransactions, high game price for a game that isn't build up from scratch makes you the best kind of consumer for these companies. Easily lead to the slaughterhouse.

In my opinion, if you don't like the price speak with your wallet and let Sony know you disagree with how they're handling the remake, if people stick to their guns and wait for a sale like they're saying then there's a chance the game will be 25% or maybe even 50% off by the time christmas rolls around.
It does seem like there is tons of outrage coming from groups of people that would've never bought the game anyway so that sucks.

Guess who's playing this day 1?

Finally secured a PS5, payed more than I would've liked but for the same price scalpers are asking for I got Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the new Gran Turismo, two games I haven't played yet and an additional controller.

Game pricing really doesn't matter all that much to me. I usually have a wish list of games that I'll get over the course of summer for the winter (when I have time to play them), and then buy them sooner or later regardless of them being on sale or not.
I understand that everything costs more to make these days. So if programmers and developers are making more $$$ for their work, then good for them. If I'm interested enough in the game, I'll get it either way. Unless they start charging $200/game. lol

Happy release day squad! Playing it rn and I'm so so so happy!!! And someone said happiness has no price? Yes it does, costs 70$ lol worth of every penny!!! When I thought remaster was already perfect, this remake takes it to the next level! Joel and Ellie look so good, just want to hug them lol Get it now!!! It is important to support your favorite IP and companies! Hope artists behind it will get a good paycheck and thick coin will be tossed. Ppl who complain about the price, forget how much work and time is put in these things.Highly recommend.

I don't own it yet, but I agree. Sure $70 is a lot but I'll likely get many hours of enjoyment from it playing it over and over again, even though I've bought it twice before. If I didn't get it I'd probably fritter away the $70 over time on stuff I don't enjoy. And if the money from this goes toward other Naughty Dog game development, great. Maybe it'll go toward a Part III.

MKIceAndFire started their no commentary playthrough:

As good as that may be, I don't like sitting in front of my PC for 3 hours. I prefer more episodic playthroughs in smaller chunks, makes them easier to download for future reference. CenterStrain 01 is starting one later and I've been watching his playthrough of the original to whet my appetite.

The length of the episodes he uploads for various games varies. Some are a lot smaller. When he was playing and uploading TLOUII it ended up as thirty-two parts. The first was almost three and a half hours long, but others were as little as 24 minutes.

The single file he uploaded afterwards was 20 hours 45 minutes / 16.5GB.

I'll add CenterStrain 01 to my Youtube bookmarks.

Sometimes though, Center can do a long Part 1, we'll see later tonight. One thing I do find though, is that, someone who is good at these games can make a game seem great. Then, you start to try to play it yourself and discover quickly that they were always better than you and you actually suck at the game! What can also happen is that you get caught up in the hype for the game, think you want it then realise when you've got it and start playing, that you didn't want the game and it was the hype that got you.

I'll have to wait for the PC release of this game, but, so far, it looks like a game I will actually enjoy playing.

100%. At $70 a game, I plan on only buying what I gotta have day 1 and let the rest go on sale before purchasing. PlayStation Store has several sales a year (and that's just them).

I'm more up in arms about Sony not making use of older IP that we haven't seen in a long time (Syphon Filter, Ape Escape, Mark of Kri) and doing too many remakes that were originally done not that long ago - like Last of Us Part I. It's part of what made the PS4 era not that interesting with some exceptions being Horizon and Days Gone.

That's why I prefer to consume them as movies, which games such as TLOU lend themselves to well. I thought the RDR series would, but they didn't.

Other game series I downloaded and kept were Uncharted and the newer Tomb Raider "Survivor Trilogy", because it feels good to have a copy of those worlds saved.

Centerstrain is live now, but, he's doing it long form. He said the first part would be 6 hours! Ouch! I'll wait for a more episodic playthrough and carry on with his playthrough of the original to get a taste for the game.

Ah, he has commentary on his. I always go for no commentary for the immersive movie experience.

MKIceAndFire finished the playthrough. It was only four parts in all:
