:lol Well, I still haven't watched The Wire or Breaking Bad which I'm told are 2 of the best of all time.
Watched Breaking Bad when it came out, and it was pretty riveting ... not just the story and acting but the cinematography. And talk about turning to the Dark Side ... emotionally exhausting at times. What a show.

I got to The Wire (and Sopranos) more or less ... just before and during the pandemic lockdowns I guess, hard to recall exactly when now. But they were freaking epic. The Wire was the most realistic depiction of the working classes I've ever seen.

I will NEVER watch:

BB
Sopranos
The Wire

Mafia / Drug Trade stuff I can watch on the news all day I don’t need to see fantasy Mafia / Drug Trade..ZzzZzz.

That's the thing -- all three of them transcend the genre. I didn't watch Sopranos or The Wire until many years after they were done, and finally understood what people were raving about.

Regarding Dany’s turn being too abrupt I actually don’t feel that way.
I'm in the "flipped too fast" camp. Her being corrupted is believable, the execution felt rushed as did the entire last season.

I guess one could argue that the whole 8th season should’ve been about the Long Night?

Then her turn would’ve been handled in all of S9?
That should have worked.

For the Night King not to be the true final conflict does give the impression that Cersei is a greater threat but then she goes out with an attempt at sympathy, odd.
GoT was always giving us weird endings, fates and anticlimaxes for characters, I just don't think Cersei's end was written as well as it could have been.
The Long Night needed a bigger hero death I think.
The Dothraki got destroyed, which was very realistic and typical GoT, but I really think Brienne should have got killed by the undead; for a second I thought they were going there. She was an awesome character and it would have been heartbreaking.
Nonetheless a full on masterpiece.
Flawed, sure ... but I've not seen anything like it before or since. We'll see if House of the Dragon comes close. Right now it's very good but not on that level.

I still get chills when I think of the Battle of the Bastards. Red Wedding was intense as hell too.

I do think Dany seeing her dragon fire not hurting the night king really opened her eyes that she needed to step up her game to conquer westeros and that her self serving freeing slaves routine had run its course when dealing with Cersei and then learning that Snow was her family and heir to the throne really escalated her power grab into madness territory.

Hey incest has its downsides lol

I keep saying to myself that this show just has a slow start and will pick up after a few episodes... But here we are on episode 5 now and it's going nowhere.

The only thing that bothered me is that they tried to make me feel sorry for Cersei at her end just no no and also Jamie flip-flopping.

For me, Cersei not getting her comeuppance was the real letdown. Allowing her the satisfaction of dying in the arms of her lover was not the cruel punishment she deserved, and earned, for 8 seasons.

Shame.... Shame...

Are you ok with Dany’s turn?

I am.

A coworker of mine is a GOT super fan he said the entire show was ruined because the night king didn’t win the throne at the end lol

He says that’s the true “shock” the show needed.

I’m like hell no he was good but way too 1 dimensional for him to win.

FINISHED GOT!!!! :thud:

Final end credits music is freaking epic!

I am emotionally exhausted.

9.8/10

It went much smoother than all the horror stories I had heard about it.

I am seriously emotionally exhausted lol
None of your Rings of Power criticism is valid anymore
:lol

Nah, but it’s different when you spend years invested in something, waiting for the conclusion, building theories and expectations etc.

I know new Star Wars fans that like the Sequels because they don’t have the same decades worth of attachment and investment that other people do.

I am.

Yeah, in fact I liked it. I didn't like how it happened exactly -- that moment when she decided to go ballistic with her dragon was a little unclear why, after winning, she decided to do that.

I thought maybe everyone would start chanting "Jon, Jon, Jon..." in celebration and that would have driven her to the last straw.

I had a completely different ending in mind before Season 8 played out -- I was pretty certain Jaime was going to kill Cersei (but they played that out with the Hound and the Mountain instead), and since I believed Dani needed to learn humility I thought she would ultimately hand the throne over to Jon. But of course, they went a different way...

Name one thread on this forum that has never been derailed.
I can't even think of a funny reply to this.

Hmm, so the RoP thread has more discussion about GoT and Breaking Bad than the RoP?

Many moons ago, I went to a wedding where all anyone could talk about was how insanely hot one of the bridesmaids was.... I'm talking Lupita Nyong'o type "stop the entire room in it's tracks" good looks.

And weddings are designed to make bridesmaids look like they are wrapped in leftover curtain to highlight the bride. Not this wedding.

So, it happens I guess. LOL

PS I would rather sit through another wedding rather than hear more Galadriel dialogue at this point. "Elf Karen" needs to tune down the grievance aura by several notches. God almighty, I hated going to Korean weddings. There was always a pastor who lectured for 90 minutes while the bride and groom just stood there hoping not to pass out before it was over. Then it would devolve into a bunch of Korean grandmothers in the parking lot shouting about something. Probably who found the best mutual fund.

That's the best compliment I can give ROP right now. It has slightly less quiet despair than a Korean wedding.

In GoT good people die, good people do bad things ... and very bad people don't get what they deserve. So that's fine, I just thought it was kinda ... almost an afterthought or otherwise lacking in dramatic weight.

True but by the 4th episode GOT was already a winner of hearts.

For some, not all. For me it took till Ned Stark’s final episode to make me start liking GoT, that’s further then 4 episodes to get me caring about GoT.

Babylon5, Most Star Treks, BSG, Highlander, etc all have slow or horrible first seasons or first several episodes. They go on to build into a great series. Everyone is different with what hooks them but to write a show off after a handful of episodes seems a bit premature. To proclaim it “horrible” “the worst ever” is definitely disingenuous.
